Aw man: nothing is ever more epic than a trilogy. However, I can wait for a movie as long as it doesn't make me wait for a movie: so, as long as it doesn't end as #2 did (or, for that matter, as #3 did), it should be great.

Story line????

That’s great that the next movie has been confirmed…but what about the storyline? Has it been confirmed that it will include Jolly Roger? What about the end of the last movie, when it showed Sparrow sailing for the fountain of youth? What about Will Turner…spending 10 years ushering dead souls to the “other side”…I don’t think he’ll be available for a movie shoot (lol). What about the fact that the end of the movie jumped forward 10 years to show Will and Elizabeth with their new son (presumable 9 years and 3 months old…), and obviously Will is still the captain of the Dutchman. What about Tia Dalma? She was released back to the sea, right? So many questions…so few answers!

Future

As detailed in The Art of the Pirates of the Caribbean, the proposed story for the fourth film was for Sparrow and Barbossa to meet up in the newly founded New Orleans, before they sail to find the Fountain of Youth together.[17] Johnny Depp signed on to return in September 2008,[18] and Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio began writing under the guidance of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is set for release in 2012.[19]

Geoffrey Rush has expressed interest in returning as Barbossa.[20] Gore Verbinski feels that "the big danger is diminishing the brand [...] it would have to be a tale worthy of telling" for him to return.[21] If the director returned, he noted that "I would start fresh and focus on the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow."[22] Unlike the previous films, he will not do it without a complete script.[23] Keira Knightley has stated that she does not wish to continue playing her character of Elizabeth Swann as she wants to do different projects.[24]

Thanks for the post Sour Kraut.

This seems most likely to me.

As for New Orleans - it's seems so simple once it's been stated...because where, in the world of the Disney Parks, is Pirates of the Caribbean housed? Why it's in Port New Orleans! Another lovely callback to the origins of this franchise.

As for the Fountain of Youth? Well, we had that obvious clue at the end of AWE. And, if you have the POTC: DMC 2 disc set, check out the extra feature on disc 2 "Charting the Return".

In an interview shown to be done in October of 2004 Gore Verbinski recalls a meeting he had with Jerry Bruckheimer a year earlier and Gore mentioned that there were many ideas for plot lines discussed for sequels. The only plot line he actually names is the Fountain of Youth.

As for Will and Elizabeth - Sour Kraut's Wikipedia article states that Keira has no intention of doing another POTC movie. She has stated that publically, and has also stated that she's considering giving up acting altogether.

One of the writers, and I'm sorry I don't remember if it was Ted or Terry, stated on their online Q&A type blog that their backstory of the Dutchman curse went along these lines: Will & Elizabeth had that one afternoon on shore before Will had to take over duties on the Dutchman for 10 years. At the end of that time he returned to shore, where Elizabeth, and their son, waited faithfully. Thus...in the writer's story universe...that ended Will's required duty on the Dutchman and left him and Elizabeth and their son free to enjoy the rest of their lives together. The writer hinted that that effectively ended any useful storyline for Will & Elizabeth in the POTC universe.

Remember Tia Dalma had not held up her end of the bargain with Davy Jones, and been unfaithful, thus began the Dutchman curse. (And we do realize of course that she was unfaithful to Davy Jones with none other than our witty Jack, thereby begetting the bad blood between those two).

Although it wasn't discussed, the only logical progression I can see from that is that it's now Calypso/Tia Dalma's duty to find a replacement for Will. Presumably sosmeone else had that job before Davy Jones buggered it up, and since Calypso chose him for the job, it stands to reason she would choose the next candidate. Remember, it was only Davy Jones' perversion of his mission that led to the whole "stab the beating heart/the Dutchman requires a beating heart" dilemma. Once Will fulfilled his 10 year tour of duty, and Izzie was faithful, they're free to go about their business and let someone else take over for 10 years.

At least that was my understanding of how the writer's intended it. In fact whichever writer it was said they were unhappy that the explanation did not make it to film and left so many unanswered questions in the minds of the filmgoers.

I've heard nothing about whether or not Geoffery Rush has agreed to POTC 4, but I'm thinking he's critical for the movie. I've heard rumors that there's a young actor being sought for the movie. Some reports have it that the younger man will play Jack's younger brother. Others believe it could be for flashback purposes, while others still speculate it could be related to the Fountain of Youth, i.e.; Jack drinks a bit too much water. Who knows? 3 whole years to develop theories.

can't wait!!! also hope there's more rumors to get me hyped up!

i hope to see the friendship between jack and barbossa become tension filled. but i really don't want to see them become "besties."

depp said if the script was good, he would do it. and knowing disney, they hired awesome writers and also amped up depp's paycheck to persuade the guy. (not saying he'd go for that, he's seems like a genuine guy)

i also want to see elizabeth and will go but their son got in the way (urg!) but maybe will jr. will turn to pirating?

can't wait to hear more news!

I my humble opinion, I think a "prequel" would be good. For those who paid attention to movies 2 &3 you were led to believe that Beckett and Jack had a run in prior to #2. Beckett used the line "We left our mark on each other" (as he was fiddling with the "p" branding iron). You could work in the mutiny of Barbossa, Davy Jone's recovering the Pearl from the bottom of the ocean, and maybe a side story regarding "ole Bootstrap".

Granted, I am not a big fan of Prequels, but there are so many questions (and possible storylines) that could turn into quite a fun movie.

But, as I said... It's just my humble opinion.

How about something along the lines of Holes? That movie (not so great, however, as the book--the movie was simply alright [the book being great], but they did do the flashbacks well) gave a million clues to the current plot, as these movies do; it also gave the whole thing a certain magic and mystery to the events. Anywhoo, that's just a suggestion. I'm not the writers who made the 3 movies, so eh.
