Question

I've noticed quite a few of us here myself included who are Guildmasters and officers in guilds. I thought that a thread regarding guilds and how to keep them active along with general questions regarding guilds might be helpful to those thinking of starting a guild or those looking to make their guilds function more smoothly.

How about some questions regarding guilds and some feedback The thread is not intended for purposes of recruiting, but more or less as a tips and suggestions thread for guilds.

Questions:

Does your guild have rules?

How do you go about recruiting for your guild?

Does your guild have any rules for recruiting?

Is your guild an adult guild or do you have mixed age groups in your guild?

What are your guilds requirements for officer promotions?

Does your guild have a minimum time requirement that a member must be in your guild before becoming eligible for promotion to officer?

Does your guild have rules regarding teleporting to other members, such as requireing members to ask permission before teleporting?

Does your guild have rules regarding member conduct?

Do your guild officers help out the lower level members with quests and leveling as well as teaching them tips and tactics?

Does your guild participate in activities as a group such as plundering and leveling on Tormenta?

Is your guild well organized when doing things like plundering and leveling or does everyone do things in sort of a free for all manner?

Does your guild have rules regarding guild chat and how guild chat is to be used?

How does your guildmaster go about keeping your guild active?

Tell us a little about your experience with guilds in POTC?

Here's my anwsers to the questions.
1.Does your guild have rules?
Yes my guilds have rules regarding recruitment, officer promotions, teleporting to members, member conduct and use of the guild chat.

2.How do you go about recruiting for your guild?
We spend time sailing with a new prospect, talking to them and getting to know them before we attempt to recruit them.
We don't spam people with guild invites, and we don't recruit basic access players. We don't recruit strangers who seem too eager to join such as those who come up to you in a crowded Tortuga or Port Royal begging you to guild them. Its been our experience that those types are usually griefers looking to cause trouble within a guild if recruited.

3.Does your guild have any rules for recruiting?
Yes our officers are required to sail with a new prospect at least three times, spend some time talking to them and getting to know them before recruiting them also an officer must explain the guild rules to a new prospect and get them to agree to them before recruiting them. We don't recruit basic access players because we don't feel that they have enough commitment to the game to become advanced and valued members. Also many of the griefers found in the game come from the basic access group, we prefer to avoid the problems. The one exception to the basic access rule are players who were unlimiteds whose subscriptions have lapsed back to basic access we don't kick em out of the guild.

4.Is your guild an adult guild or do you have mixed age groups in your guild?
I have three Pirates in three very different guilds one of these guilds is a mixed ages group guild with adult, players, teenagers and one 11 year old player so we don't have an age limit for this guild. Another of my guilds is an adult guild we only recruit adult players into this guild. My third guild is so far only members of my family.

5.What are your guilds requirements for officer promotions?
One guild has a minimum requirement of notoriety level 20 for officer eligibility the other two guilds have a level 25 minimum notoriety requirement.

6.Does your guild have a minimum time requirement that a member must be in your guild before becoming eligible for promotion to officer?
Yes all three guilds require a minimum of 30 days membership in the guild before eligibility for officer promotion. This helps prevent those guildjumpers who join for the purpose of recruiting members from your guild into another guild, and those who simply want into a guild in order to stir up trouble within the guild.

7.Does your guild have rules regarding teleporting to other members, such as requireing members to ask permission before teleporting?
Yes all three of my guilds require members to ask permission before teleporting to other members or their ships. One of the guilds is very strict with that and failure to obey the rule will result in first a couple of reminders and warnings. A third violation will result in that member being kicked out of the guild.

8.Does your guild have rules regarding member conduct?
Yes all three guilds require that members treat other members with respect. Also harrassment of other members and players is strictly forbidden.

9.Do your guild officers help out the lower level members with quests and leveling as well as teaching them tips and tactics?

Yes often times taking out a whole group of lower level players to help them level up their sailing, cannon and weapons skills. and also to teach them tactics.

10.Does your guild participate in activities as a group such as plundering and leveling on Tormenta?
As much as possible helps keep the guild active.

11.Is your guild well organized when doing things like plundering and leveling or does everyone do things in sort of a free for all manner?
One of my guilds was kind of a free for all in how they did things, I joined a very well organized guild with my second pirate and since then have been working toward getting activities organized with all three guilds.

12.Does your guild have rules regarding guild chat and how guild chat is to be used?
One of my guilds has very strict rules regarding guild chat If more than three members are on Guild chat is used for important communications and not general chatter.

13.How does your guildmaster go about keeping your guild active?
We try to get members together for plundering and go as a group to work on leveling up our pirates. Also like to throw an occasional guild party and present awards to outstanding members and officers.

14.Tell us a little about your experience with guilds in POTC?
My first guild experience was right when I began playing It was one to those guild invite spammers who kept hitting me with guild invites til I clicked yes. I was in that guild for a couple of weeks and attempted to talk to other members through guild chat never had one of them anwser me. So I never actually met or spoke with another member of that guild during my membership.

My second guild experience was when some players helped me with my grenade quest and I decided to join their guild. I had to go out of town for week and when I returned I discovered that the guild had broken up. The GM asked me to join a guild he had just joined and I followed him into that guild. I am now second in command of that guild. I discovered that my former GM was one of those guild jumpers who seemed to change guilds about every week. The day after I joined the new guild he asked me to follow him into another guild and I refused. My GM of this guild became inactive and guild activity nearly died out for a while. During this time I had created a second pirate and joined another guild with him. He is now an officer in this guild. I always tended to hang out with higher level high quality players and learned a lot from them. I took many of the lessons learned from this second guild and implimented them as policy in my first pirates guild. As a result I was able to get that guild active again. When I created my third pirate and guild it was my intention to create a guild for Native American players. I'm Cherokee and in my months of playing I've met a few other players who were of American Indian descent so my goal with this guild is to have an indian guild. So far this guild is just myself and members of my family.
