Server Specific Friends/Crew/Guild

I am somewhat new to POTCO but have played a few lifetimes on other games.

When you choose a server (or random) to connect to - will you still see any Friends/Guild members that are on DIFFERENT servers?

Assuming so, does it then make sense to join the same server in ur going to play in true team fashion?

Other games, players were on a server at a time. You needed GameSpy or other tools to track where clanmates may be...Is POTCO the same?
