hmm, I'd like to know what causes such things. I know its a very old bug.

In any case, have you tried to clear the Cache in your Pirates game folder stored on your hard drive? If you never done so, do it. Delete all except for the index files which are always located at the bottom of the folder.

Advised a friend to do it yesterday when she reported that her month long problem wasn't solved. It worked immediately after I told her to clear her Cache as directed above.
