Boarding the Black Pearl

Instead of talking about the whole Boss Battle, I thought it might be interesting and helpful to share our experiences with the intial boarding and subsequent fight with the Navy Officers.

I've done the Boss Battle 4 times now with a crew and have found this to be the most challenging part of the task.

Although my pirate is Level 36, I very nearly bit the dust during my last 2 boardings. It seems I was engaged by at least 3 of the Officers before I could even pull my weapon, and only a quick dose of Tonic kept me outta jail both times. (During one of the boardings, a Level 32 mate of mine was wiped out as soon as he hit the deck. He said afterwards that he never really saw what hit him.)

I know people have successfully used their Doll, but, on these 2 instances, I landed on deck amidst a cluster of our Crew and the Officers. Although the Officers had no trouble targetting me in the throng, I found it impossible to single out any of them to attune. Likewise, other Doll Wielders on our Crew had trouble isolating me in order to heal; it was only after I broke free of the crowd -- with the Navy hot on my heels -- that they were able to find & help me.

A couple of us used WITHER from our Staffs on one of the boardings -- which might not have been the best idea, either. The waves of light cast by this hex made it more difficult for others to locate targets and see what was going on.

FYI, these boardings were done with an 8-10 person crew, with levels in the high 20s to 30s. Although that size was terrific for taking out the frigates and bridges -- and Goliath barely got a shot off at us -- I think it worked against us a bit in the initial boarding.
