Shark Relays

Think you're a top-of-the-line sailor now, eh? You've braved the perilous waters of battle against the undead armies of Jolly Roger, you've faced the destructive forces of the expedition fleets of the East India Company and the British Royal Navy, you've even fought for a nation or two just so that your pocket could become just a little more full - you might have even done battle with the Goliath herself! And although wit and strength may get you far on the high seas, we all at one time must embrace the, as Captain Sparrow calls it, "noblest of all pirate traditions:"

We must fight... to right away!

And as such, one pirate must learn to not be so hefty on his feet as he is forceful. You must learn to not only think on your toes, but run on them - and, sure enough, that has also been accomplished. Many pirates in these waters know all too well how to keep themselves afloat in times of peril, and have mastered it like an art. Some may call it cowardly, - I, personally, pursue it as attacking in the opposite direction.

And while staying thin in the sails is a good way to survive as yourself, we must always remember that everything is always better in a group. And seeing as how fleeing is but one of a pirate's greatest friends, why not we practice as a group... savvy?

The Shark Relays is a pirate's take on the event known as relay running, in which groups of people each run a specific leg of a race, to complete it is a group. Named after the guild's signature and renowned ship, the "Victory Shark," which despite it's many victories is always willing to fight another day, so to speak, the event entails pirates forming in to groups of four, and preforming a relay race around the Caribbean in their ships. (details explained below)

Rules

1. Relay groups must be composed of exactly four pirates - no larger, no smaller.
2. Any pirate of any guild is allowed to create a group - there are no restrictions on who may participate.
3. To sign up for a group, one person from the group must post on this thread the names of all the pirates in their group, and the name of the ship each of them will be sailing, before May 20th. ***NOTE: Each person in a relay must use their OWN SHIP!***
4. HAZING, HARASSING, OR JEERING AT OTHER COMPETITORS WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION, AS WELL AS FURTHER REPRIMANDATION. This is a friendly event, and will be treated as such.
5. Glitches, hacks, or use of third party programs to enhance in-game performance is strictly forbidden.

How the Race Will Work:

1. To avoid mass confusion, the teams who choose to sign up will be divided in to Heats, or Waves of players, with no more than 6 teams to a heat. So, if there are 10 teams registered, 5 teams will be in Heat 1, and 5 in Heat 2.
2. The leg runners will be sent to their respective islands - so, the Leg 1 Runners will wait on the Tortuga Dock, Leg 2 Cuba, Leg 3 Padres, and Leg 4 Port Royal.
3. When I say go, the Leg 1 Runners will launch their ships from Tortuga, and sail on the given path on the course map (the green path) to their destination, where their path ends.
4. As soon as the runner for the first leg ports, they need to run up to the Second Leg Runner on their team, and flex. This will allow for that runner to then launch their ship, and repeat this process when they get to their destination.
5. When the runner of the Fourth Leg reaches Tortuga, they need to run up to me, and flex. First team to have their final runner flex in front of me, wins!

Course Map:

The Big Dot marks where a Leg of the Race begins.
The end of a leg is stopped near an island - that is the island that runner needs to reach.
The 1st Leg is marked in Green.
The 2nd Leg is marked in Yellow.
The 3rd Leg is marked in Orange.
The 4th and final leg is marked in Magenta.

Hmm, that shape sure seems familiar... doesn't it?

NOTE: Each runner must correctly follow the course as shown above. If a referee sees you have gone off course, your team WILL be disqualified.

What: The First Annual Shark Relays!
When: Sunday, May 22nd, 2011, at 6:45 PM Eastern
