Svs - taking random damage?

I notice often when you dodge incoming things like incoming fire, ramming speed etc that even if you dodge it, you still take the damage anyway. A ramming speed missed my by around 10 metres, but I still took the damage. I dodged several fury rounds, they missed by 20 m, and I randomly sank....
I respawn, went instantly to my cannon, fired at an enemy war frigate ( I did not sail my ship, it was the same place I spawned) then it fired a boardside, and I took a TON of damage. What happened to the hint that said "you are temperary invincible when spawned in svs" did my spawn shield malfunction? lol
Anyone having this happen too?
