Another Theory!
I am starting to think that loot is like rep: The more attacks landed, the better the loot.
I have tested this by attacking Claude D' Arcis with Kleos Sunsutter (Lvl. 10, so Claude is an easy match for me). Using a Sharp Cutlass (16 attack, critical strike), he dropped a pouch 3 of 5 times of defeating him. Not bad, but not good, either. Using a Rusty Sabre (7 attack), he dropped 5 of 5 times, a Chest for 2 of those, pouches for 3. Every time I opened the loot, I got a weapon or clothing item of at least common rarity. I also got a War Cutlass (rare, 39 attack, healing boost, flourish +1) and a Freebooter's Sea Chart (rare) from the chests. Both I cannot use quite yet and they are very good for a level 10 to loot (although I have gotten a famed with Dan, way back when). The sabre, which killed in about 28 hits, got the better loot. The cutlass, which killed in about 17 hits, got a bad haul. What do you think? Coincidence, or have I found something here?
