Love that idea! I was also thinking, maybe it could just be a tattoo (the ones you get for finishing the privateer quests?!?!) or something that you have to equip at a tailor and you're suddenly in pvp mode. You'll get a new logo over your name and your ship's name, if you're sailing, with that islands' flag, showing that you are able to fight. This could also branch off from the SvS quests and become another seperate quest all about land privateering... or something lol.
