I want to thank both Vangelis and WizardHawk for their posts. They were a HUGE help.
Even after reading the above info, I still bit the dust on my first attempt. Once I was in front of the derelict ship, I started my run from the righthand wall -- and must have cut a bit too close to a LVL35 Seabeard. I swear it only took it one blow to put me out.
My second attempt went A LOT better. As before, I used the "front" entrance and made my way to the righthand wall in front of the ship. But then, wanting to avoid that Seabeard, I varied my approach. Taking a lot of time to assess the movement patterns, I eventually dashed across the cave floor to the lefthand side -- where I paused. There was one Skelly who kept marching back & forth in front of an incline, but I waited until its back was turned, then ran up the incline behind it. (This took me in the direction of the "back door" mentioned by WizardHawk.)
I turned back around to face toward the ship and, standing on the incline, bided my time again. Once I saw a clear path from the incline to the area between the two chunks of ship, I took off like a rocket. Made it behind the ship in one go and stumbled right on top of that beautiful green circle. Not a single Skelly was following me, so I took my sweet time digging that puppy up.
Thanks again, mates!
