stuck on cannon or ships wheel: can not let go

I am having a problem and hope someone can help. When I sail (does not matter whether its my ship or public) if I am the captain I can not let go of the wheel. If I am on a cannon I can not let go also. Its as if I am locked/stuck there. The only way for me to be able to let go is if we are boarding an enemy ship or porting. Once I'm on that's it. Clicking on your weapon at the bottom of the screen does not help anymore. I used this way forever but I came on to play one day and that option is no more. This bug is very annoying and I really need a way to fix it. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.
