The map

OK...is it just me or is everyone having trouble with the map? I am running back and forth on these blasted tasks and my map doesn't show up prpoerly so I have to sail everywhere, and today because of some silly glitch where a Navy ship pretty much swallowed mine, I ended up swimmimg all of the way to Tortuga from just outside Port Royal.

Any words of wisdom? Anybody, Anybody??

I believe when everybody opens the map the only thing seen is "blue" instead of all the islands. This is probably another bug that cropped up after one of the patches, and I am sure they are working to resolve it (Hopefully)...

Ooops

Sorry - I just got to the thread about weird graphics and the map. I'll try and read more before posting new questions to try and avoid all the repeats, my bad!

The bug with the "blue" map occured at release 1.0.8.0. I've been sending in one report a day on it, along with a screenshot.

I was having the exact same problem, and sent several bug reports about it, but didn't get a reply.

However, I have a family member with their own seperate beta key who I share this computer with who DID get a reply, and in it, it said;

Quote:

The problem you reported might be related to your video card drivers that can be resolved by upgrading to the latest versions which can be found on the manufacturer's or vendor's web site.
In the email they also identified my graphic card and the date on my drivers. I upgraded my drivers at the NVIDIA website (for free) and now the map works perfectly. Yippee!!

I hope this info can help others. It was not easy getting around without the map. Now I am teleporting all over the place just for the heck of it...lol.

rapics Driver for G-Force 6800

Ok, here's what I discovered. I have he latest graphics driver (dated 4/19/2007) for my card. It worked fine until POTC release 1.0.8.0 when the map became unreadable (just a blue field). On a hunch I backed off the driver to the version that was installed on my computer (Dell Dimension) when I bougt it. This verion is dated 11/2004. I can now read the map again.

This is a case where Disney needs to update THEIR graphics driver. I wonder what I'm losing by giving up over 3 years of updates.
