mine says "directX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)"

in the PiratesOnline folder, files called "launcher-(numbers)" open the most recent one.
this will list your hardware, windows version, dx info, between the start of the file, and
"trying to start spash and sefl path"
Thanks so much! Yes I do have the current version installed, but its nice to know how to figure that out. Ran all of the tests and everything seems to be running just fine. I have no clue what causes the severe freeze. I guess it could be server related, but no one else seems to be having freeze times as long as I am. I also can't seem to get my fps rate any higher than around 30.

Boy, it's comforting to know someone is getting a response from all the bug reports they send in. With all the dozens of reports I've sent in, I have yet to get a reply. I'm going on almost 2 weeks of not being able to log in. I'm not going to go out and buy a new graphics card just to play one game. Especially when I was able to play before.

I did get a very specific report - surprisingly! Here it is:

"Thank you for your recent bug report.

Pirates Online utilizes the latest 3-D features of current video cards. It's helpful to stay up to date with your video card's latest software drivers.

Have you recently applied the Windows Update "Intel Corporation - Video - Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family"? If so, please revert back to the one provided by Intel or an updated Intel manufactured version (Intel's Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family), as there may be issues with the Intel driver provided by Windows. You will have to manually uninstall the Microsoft's updated version as opposed to installing the new driver over the old version. For assistance with this procedure, you may have to contact your computer or video card manufacturer.

Thanks again for your email and we look forward to seeing you soon in Pirates of the Caribbean online."

So I went back to Best Buy this morning to have them do the computer stuff - Lord knows I'd mess something up! Tried reverting back - same microsoft error message - then they manually uninstalled it and installed the newest version (only one update since my computer is pretty new) and still no luck - so hopefully they will send me some other suggestion to try although the geek squad seems to think it's on their end. At any rate, I did finally get a personal type response which I was very happy with (even though it didn't work)

The Intel series graphics are extremely weak compared to standard graphic cards from Nvidia or ATI. The i945 series is designed with business apps in mind and simple game play. The i945 also shares your system memory which makes it very slow as well and at the same time robs your system of needed memory to run the game better. My advise to you is to buy a 7000 series or higher Nvidia card or a X series ATI card. Ask the geek squad to ensure your system has the proper slot for the card. It will solve a lot of problems and make your system compatible with 99.9% of everything out there. Good luck...

Wow - thanks JoG! I'm going to have to print that out and take it with me - unforunately, can't do it until this weekend and it will most likely take them a week to do it but that is much better information than I have gotten before... What is kind of irritating is when I bought this computer I told the salesperson it would be mostly used for playing games!!! Oh Well!

i gotta dell inspiron notebook 600m, got it in feb 2006 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphic card. From what i have read about it online it seems like it really should be enough to handle this game....It DID work up until the dreaded May18th update! Yet, maybe it's antiquated now in 2007 to work with the likes of potc? i seen somewhere the release date for this card was in 2002! blimey!!
Beta support says "Currently your graphics card is not functioning with Pirates Online.

We are working to resolve this issue and apologize for the inconvenience."

does that mean it might work ok again in the near future?

But i have a feeling it might be more......like i cheaped out and got the Intel Celeron processor when everyone knows Pentium is the way to go...but then again, i wasn't even into gaming when i bought this laptop! Who Knew? lol

Well, thats my feelings for the day. Hang in there and hopefully on the next tide they will get us marooned pirates back into port again ...To all pirates that were able to get onboard, Plunder On!

Alas - all is lost for me guess I never mentioned I'm on a laptop - the geek squad guy almost laughed at me (been in there 3 days in a row) and told me if I had mentioned that then nobody would have suggested I upgrade because I can't on a laptop - I sure don't know anything about computers! so who knows when I'll be abl to swing my sword again... it's really kinda sad - I sent them a long email quoting all the places on their website that said they were gearing it for slower/older type computers - and asking why they keep making the requirements more stringent (I do understand why they have to but I was playing devil's advocate) - the orginal requirements they sent in their first email to me were much, much lower - the ones on the game website have been updated to show recommended requirements now - it's just a shame that people like me, who want to play won't be able to unless they do something on their end. Oh well, thanks for trying to help JoG - do appreciate it!
