All you do is cripple a flag, just don't grapple it or board it. Once you see the green circles flashing on it, leave and sink some big enemy ships with your broadsides. If you're close to level 15, I'd say use it to get to that level, but I wouldn't rely on this glitch mate. It's more rewarding to level up over time, for me at least. Also, you may want to consider saving for the war galleon first, though I leave that completely up to you. I was able to get my war sloop about five days after I got my war galleon, but part of that was due to leveling my staff on the group of soldiers at Kingshead. Anyway, fair winds and good hunting

I would use regular cannonballs just to be safe. I heard they fixed the firebrand sinking glitch but I have not verified it for myself yet. I've also heard that you can grapple and just pull away from it without boarding, and the glitch will still work, but I have not tried that. As for targets, I would go out behind Isla Tormenta, and also behind Outcast and Padres to find higher level enemies. You're welcome, glad I could help.

Fire sinks the ships.

Disable the ship with any other cannon shot. Personally I found that it was best to grapple the ship, then sail away instead of not grappling the ship. When not grappling, I found nearby enemies still engaged.

Firebrand sinking ships is not a glitch. A ship gets disabled, and stays on fire, and then sinks because its received too much damage.
Perfectly understandable, if they fixed it, its the first realistic thing they took OUT of the game.
