Job Description and Responsibilities:The VR STUDIO is Disney’s Center of Excellence in real-time graphics and interactive entertainment online. The studio is currently focused on the development of Pirates of the Caribbean Online – a massively multiplayer online game set for release in 2007 (PiratesOnline.com).

Previous studio projects include the award-winning Toontown Online (toontown.com), a massively multiplayer online game for kids of all ages. The studio has also developed interactive theme park rides: Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for Buccaneer Gold, and Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride for DisneyQuest (disneyquest.com).

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are searching for a talented and experienced individual to develop software systems within our massively multiplayer online game engine, Panda3D. The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of everything it takes to build and maintain a world-class real-time game engine, with expert knowledge in one or more engine subsystems or platforms. The candidate will work with a small team of engine developers supporting the game play programmers and artists.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:
• The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Computer Science (Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus), and relevant industry experience.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Software engineer with 3-5 years of experience in C/C++ systems development for 3d games.
• Specialization in one or more areas: graphics, shaders, lighting, physics, audio, networking, effects, console development, Macintosh, etc.
• Ability to work and communicate well within a team of artists and programmers.
• Ability to write high performance code and optimize existing systems.
• An enthusiastic, self-starter with a good attitude and good team spirit.
• Experience shipping high quality, mass market titles.
• Avid game player.
Desired Skills and Pluses:RECOMMENDED SKILLS:
• Cross platform software engineering experience (Windows, Linux, Mac, console).
• Working on or playing massively multiplayer online games.
• Experience with Maya scripts, converters, and general art pipeline expertise.
• Familiarity with character animation, skinning, rigging, and real-time playback.
• Multi-Threaded / Multi-Processor / Parallel Process programming skills.
• Knowledge of Python scripting language.
