Pirates Keep to the Code - August 29, 2011
New Pirates of all ages sail into the Caribbean every day.
To keep the Caribbean a safe and welcoming place for everyone, ALL Pirates are expected to follow the Pirates Online Code of Conduct. ![]() To stay safe in-game and to keep your account in good standing, follow these simple rules: • Never ask for or give out your personal information to anyone in the game or online – it’s just not safe. This includes: - Account ID - Password - E-mail address - Home address - Phone number NOTE: Disney GMs will never ask for your personal information in the game. • Pirates of all ages sail these waters, so always mind your tongue. Inappropriate topics as outlined in Disney's Online House Rules are not acceptable and could get you removed from the game if you discuss them. • Show your fellow Pirate brethren respect. Treat others as you would like to be treated in-game. Pirates that don't follow these rules can be removed from the game, in some cases permanently. They also lose the chance for special opportunities, like being selected for the Player Spotlight or Test Server invitations. Your behavior could also negatively affect your Guild if they are being considered for the Guild Spotlight. When in doubt, feel free to Contact Us on any account or possible safety issue. I think this is good that Disney reminds people how to behave on the internet. For the ones who are new as well as those who have been here a long time.

I actually find it a bit annoying that they have been repeating all this stuff in the past few weeks. If it were one of these every month and a half I wouldn't mind as much as the fact that the last three or four posts have been things like this that most of us really don't care about. I honestly wish they would at least give us some hints of what's to come. I hate to rant like that, but I really just get tired of seeing all this copied and pasted stuff, especially when its only that for over a month instead of at least HINTS of new content. Just my 2 cents. |

We do the best we can to deal with those that choose not to follow the rules. You're always going have someone trying to bend/break them. Some Pirates just don't understand the word respect.

@aka, that isn't so much the problem. I don't expect a community of perfect people, no game has that. What I DO expect is that POTCO will take care of players breaking the rules. Unfortunately, the reports most people seem to send either do not get to POTCO's moderators or the moderator's do not care about the reports. If they are going to emphasize these rules so much, they should also make the punishments for breaking them REAL. I'm sorry, but when it comes to this I am not at all on the game's side.

They really need to fix the system. Not just the reporting but, censored words too. It's amazing how when discussing my clothing colors I was censored but a guy on Abassa said a VERY inappropriate thing over and over and it went through. I said I reported him and my friend was actually convinced that the reporting was glitched because she had been reported 20+ times without a ban. Also, back in the old days, I was banned for saying that my Co-GM should be GM because he is more active.

Why more "stalling" news? :/ When are they actually going to tell the rest of the Pirates Online Community (aka "The Grog Blog") about Ship Customization and the New Ship that is "supposedly" coming. I apologize for ranting there. (End Rant) While I agree this is good to see that pirates is telling people that they need to watch what they're saying/doing online. We need info about new content at the same time too right?

If only players actually listened to this...

Although I do agree that their timing is a poor choice, this probably has to do with the recent influx of new players that have entered the game recently. On top of this, I saw a very rare occurrence a couple of days ago (a POTCO Commercial! Holy smokes!) so I would assume they want to reiterate this.
But yes, often times pirates fail to heed these words, which is a shame. Disney definitely needs to work on revamping the chat filters, because I find it silly pirates can say derogatory slang just fine, yet I can't say how much gold I got on a gold run without speaking in code. I'm not sure how they would be able to fix the reporting system. I suppose they could add new categories such as Harassment and stuff like that, but at the same time we need to realize that the POTCO reporting system is chat based. If you report somebody for griefing a pirate, you're going to have a very hard time actually getting them banned if they didn't say anything to mark it down in the chat records. This is why I say that whenever an offensive action is taken against myself or a fellow pirate, I simply give the pirates a stern talking to and teleport away. I've learned by now it's better not to dwell with people who intelligence lacks so much they get amusement out of other's pain.... Did I say that? ![]() Quote:

I would rather them not spend time on telling us what we already know, and spend more time on getting the ship update done.

On the subject of respect, is there a way to prevent pirates from taking the wheel when you leave it or booting them from the ship when they do?

Most players already know the things they're sending out, but this could prove pretty useful to newer players. I'm positive that writing something up to put on the site is not stopping them from working on updates. I agree, they are probably trying to keep the site fresh with new announcements often, but they've already said they're working on something. Hurrying them will not make the finished piece fantastic as many are expecting. My advice is to be patient, because Disney were rushed in making the Ship Of The Line, and we all know how that turned out.
Disney do need to fix the chat filter. Messages, especially the long ones, are being blocked when there is no offensive content in them. Sometimes the game won't even let me say the word 'who' in my message! The first time it happened, I was asking who wanted to drive in my Black Pearl Boss Battle. I'm sure worse things have happened to other players. The problem with players saying words that are allowed in the chat to mean more offensive ones is getting far too out of hand. It isn't so bad with SpeedChat Plus, which is a good thing, but nothing can really be done to stop the players doing it in Open Chat. And when they are reported, the player isn't usually banned. And the thing is, when I got a warning once, it was a complete mistake because I put two words together that the chat filter didn't like. I hadn't said anything offensive at all. I too noticed that the reports are chat based. When you report someone for doing something inappropriate to you without sending any messages, chances are that you'll get a violation for 'false reporting'. I'm not sure what Disney can do about this. I've noticed that two words are allowed in the SpeedChat Plus dictionary that have been there since the start of the game. 'Noob' and 'crud'. 'Crud' speaks for itself, and 'noob' may be used often to say something unoffensive, like 'I'm going to switch to my noob.', but it is used much more as an insult. Using that word like that has been going on for a long time, so why haven't Disney picked up on it yet? About the stalling again, I think it's nice of Disney to keep thinking about their players and regularly posting things that we may already know, but it's good to know that they're still making an effort to keep the front page fresh for us while they're working on the next update. Patience is a virtue. |
