Anyone playing with Windows Vista?

so i bought a new Dell XPS 420 the game looks way better and no lagging which is good

but if i go to get on my ship the game crashes everytime

any clue

Try this turn down every video setting you can. If you don't crash then try increasing the video settings one by one until you find the one that is causing the crash.

If you crash even with the video setting turned all the way down, find the latest video card drivers and install them and try it.

that is very odd bc i know for a fact that the Dell XPS series is an amazing gaming series and is very very very powerful some even come with duel vid cards so idk might be the internet connection? or something possibly at potco part

yup it runs everything perfect just when i go to my ship and the high seas screen comes up bam POTCO crashes

yup well lame any island load screen or seas crashes me instantly the memory has a instant leak and crashes

I have a Dell XPS 410 running with Vista and I have had no problems with it. Can't help you there but it is just interesting reading about all these Vista crashes when I have none of them...

okay here is the deal i have the same problem and worked it out with potco team.

#1- make sure u have 2gb memmory or more with vista, vista is memmory hog if u have less then 2gb u are in a bog.

#2- if its your videocard wich was the problem for me is that, you probably have the newest drivers ... wich normally would not be a bad thing.. actually it would be the best thing... except for potco. you will need to downgrade your drivers to about 2006, most vid card support dont have downgraded drivers. so you will have to contact there customer support.

If your videocard is spanking new... then you need another one :P sorry

#3- is your settings try agressive conservation for memmory and lowest graphics that the game allows (this makes game slowwww as snails for me) but it works for others.

#4- being your game_options.txt file wich needs to be changed in combonation with your driver downgrades but sometimes works by fixing it onits own.

replace the content of that file with excatly as follows.

state
api

Bah just downgrade to windows xp and wait till vista actually stabilizes. Im running two gtx8800's the most powerful card on the market. I have never had a problem with any game, and i always get the latest drivers. I put these babies under the hardest load i could and still only used 50-60% of there full potential, and i havent even overclocked them yet.

You have a prebuilt machine though so the same rules don't apply, who knows what dell loads on there machines these days.

Even alienware is nothing but a hack job.

well i assure I have more than enough ram

i have Max 4 Gigs or Ram my video card thats in it is the ATI Radeon 2004 HD which came in it and its updated so that could be an issue but when they mail me my 425watt poer source which they should have to begin with I will be Installing a Diamond Stealth x1550 graphics cards

I use agressive and defualt conservation nothing helps still runs fast

and the techs had me eidt the gam options.txt to force directx9 and low and behold it made the game crash on the launcher where i cant even play the game at all

so POTCO shows again their lack of knowledge

and im tired running it as a windows service pack 2 program which u can do on Vista

and it sitll does the same thing

so the only thing i can think of is my graphics card is too good?
