My idea of how to make a trade system
Hey, this is my thread, I'm going to post what I think are essential to have a working trade system in this game.
The first and foremost thing that you need is for people to actually WANT to earn currency. As of now, the only thing to do with it is play card games, buy/repair ships, and bribe the odd quest character. That's hardly useful. I think that to get people to spend you need NOVELTIES. Things to show off, really. Things that you don't need, things you can get that other players can't, and things that you want just for the sake of it. So, two words. Ship customization. All our ships look IDENTICAL. The only way to stand out would be to have an awesome looking ship. There could be different parts of ships that could be fitted to ours, such as masts, railings, rudders, hulls, doors, prows, cannons, crow's nests, riggings, sails...Different sets of them all. Ornate ones, bejewelled ones, wood ones, metal rimmed ones...the possibilities. Players would WANT to spend their money on these to stand out from the other players. Obviously the only way to make this into a market would be to have it so that these can only be made/obtained from other players, which I'm left a little stumped on as to how would work. Ideas? Comments? Criticsism? I'm open. |

You could buy clothing when it comes out with gold. Spend some on tattoos, and other stuff coming soon.

Customizing ships would be pretty amazing. I've thought about it for a bit. It would have to be pretty expensive though, to be fun. Maybe it would require some materials? That way, people who want to customize their ship would pay other characters, who'd make money collecting and selling the materials, so that the other person doesn't have to

They have said a while ago, that they plan on letting us build our own ships.

Yes, I hope they just dont make us sell our war ships and have to buy another just to implement these changes. I love my fleet!!!

yes a trade system would be a great addition to potco.
But...... You'll have certain people who whine and cry about gold farming, etc. And it's impossible to have a good trading system without the ability to transfer gold. IMO, gold farmers are NOT a bad thing. They won't harm you or your enjoyment of the game, except for the fact that the whiners(have whined on here about it before) would be jealous that they aren't as rich. But really though why does it matter what other players do? All the gold in the world won't make you dominate PVP, so it doesn't stop competition at all. I have heard a few people say things like " what good could come out of gold trading?" lol, i'll tell you what.... I could give some extra gold to a guild member who is short on gold and struggling. Why should I have to sail with people to give them gold? Yes level 5 treasure sense does help, as does my 1k per trip, but it gets boring. I should be able to simply give my gold away if I wish to. It's my gold and I earned. And another thing, If someone gets a rare clothes drop, why shouldn't they be able to sell it to their guild leader for some extra gold? I'm sure someone will come and prove me to be wrong with their self-centered Point of view. So I'll just see what develops lol..... |

It is costing your credit card companies as well. when you annual fees for your credit cards go up or the monthy costs of your games go up, who's to blame? the in game farming of gold and buying of pre leveled up toons is a very bad cycle. it will only continue if people feel it is harming no one. it hurts everyone else playing the game and you as well. if you have ever played a game where they run rampent you would understand. They own the game, not the players. There is no mob or item that is safe, they get it first and for cash will sell it to you. Getting lovely spam messages like this " yes, yes, you buy coin, you get pretty item, good armor weloveyoulongtime". Honestly its a nightmare. also I sorry if this sounded like a slam on you, it wasn't meant to be, so please do not take it that way. It does concern me when people in general feel that gold farmers cause no harm. I forgot to mention the keystroke programs most have embedded on their sites that they sneak onto anyone's system they can. I could see Disney doing some sort of external exchange type service. " Really what are your sources for this info? lol you have just named some figures off the top of your head. I can sell one of my higher my chars right now on ebay and make some quick cash. Argument against gold farmers:
%99 of farmers are koreans and the revenue from these gold farming exchange sites you buy such In-Game cash for games such as ragnarok, WoW, Runescape, and others....funds their nuclear weapons capabilities. Disney is WAY to republican to be caught supporting such...even as indirectly as this. Moreover if they did....I'd make a huge stink about it on public television and slander their name all over the press. As it is...the lack of economy is the only decent thing about this game. Even so...there is nothing to trade...nothing to sell...nothing to buy. For the few things that cost money (Boats, weapons, & disposables). Go find a buddy and abuse the poker bug. Money is worthless in this game as it is. If there were unlimited amounts of cash....i could generate it at a rate of 40 per click. Or....about 100-200 per second depending on how fast my partner is. |

Personally, I don't care if you want to buy gold. But I do think you're shortchanging yourself of a lot of the enjoyment of the game if you take the easy way out. It's not like gold is especially difficult to get. |

Okay im gona post this as an actual response to the real idea of this thread, in order to have a trading system we need a diverse crafting system (no i will never say that we need one like wow has where half the people are resource grinders).
We need one where you get specializations, like you make clothes, weapons, or ships, with resources you gather by killing, which the ones you dont need are traded for ones you actualy need. Finaly skills, like make 200 of these items and you can make 10 new ones. In my experience a game that does this normaly removes half of its npc crafters because the economy then is stable and in the players hands, which i admit is sometimes bad early on, and then it flows normaly and good changes to the rest of the game can be made. And i will admit I got some of these ideas from SWG in its earlier years when it had thousands of players on all its servers, when all you had to do was walk 20 feet into a town and you found a player owned vendor selling every clothes item in the game. I'm not about to read these novels on how the trading system should go. But in reality, Disney will never implement it. For basicaly a couple reasons below:
- When you introduce currency, trading, items etc. You introduce hackers, crackers, dupers, cheaters, whiners, complainers, the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm sure Disney doesnt want 10 year old kids complaining about being duped 40k of their precious gold. - When you have something to compete over (money, items etc.) people will obviously go to insane heights to get what they want. This includes using cheats or whatever to basicaly ruin this game. So the game will simply become a hack fest, and if Disney can't fix a few simple glitches, how in the world are they going to fix that. - And I'm pretty damn sure, Disney isn't smart enough to make a good econemy in a game. |

Custom ships are my biggest desire in the game, as well as different ships. If I want a pinnace, barque, or cutter in my fleet. But one problem exists with customizable ships... Where would you put the Cold Air Intake or Spinners?
Seriously though, I would love to be able to manually place the cannons, sail arrangement, etc. Another plus would be the ability to enter the cabin or hull, but mainly, I would love to be able to throw overboard the crates of cotton I get, so I would not need to return to port as often. Another Pirates! game I played in the past allowed for that, as well as fleeting all your ships at once, and keeping a captured ship (which I do not want here), abeit it was single player. It is frusterating, having to launch, let someone TP to you, teleport back, launch, let someone teleport to you, and launch just to get all 3 ships out there. I would also love to see weapon drops. How many MMOs are there where everyone has EXACTLY the same weapons that are capable of doing EXACTLY the same damage? Let's see some rare weapon drops, only not so rare as the clothing drops. Anyway, just my 2 peices of eight. Loot Hard!

They just need more in game money sinks. More clothes, maybe have shanties, shacks, houses, whatever, keep buying up til you got a mansion, then an island. You'd have to make inside your place an instance though.
As far as ship customization - at least give up the ability to have different color sales, and a flag over top. Have maybe 20 flag choices (that appear as flags over flag ships) and I dunno 40 different (at least) sail designs. This would be a start. As far the detail the OP was getting into, I don't know if I would pay for that (yet, I'm not maxxed w/ 1 of each war class ship). |
