POTCO Grog Blog...
When they introduced the Grog Blog to us pirates, I thought that it would be a good idea. I was wrong. It seems to be a big mess of nonsense.
When POTCO posts Current News to update us pirates and give us hints as to what is coming, everyone has to post a comment. More and more people every time! Today the total was 556! More aggrivating to me is that I have tried several times to post on that blog and have never been successful. Guess they dont like my comments, LOL. I find myself, when I do go to the Current News, scrolling down till I find a Game Master's comment. I read the one before and theirs. Really there is no point to reading all the others, and I doubt that many who post there actually take the time to do so. I personally dont have HOURS to spend reading each post to then decide what I want to say. In my opinion, I think POTCO has let the Grog Blog get out of hand. They should limit the comments. Maybe even close the blog sooner than they do. |

...its really a way to let the members of POTCO feel connected....out of thirty odd million members worldwide...five hundred something blog/comments is not that many.....
They might could highlight the GM's comments in red...or archive them on a separate tab... |

Oh gosh, I feel that the Grog Blog only approves comments that are considered "positive" to the updates/events.
Constructive Criticism rarely gets the green light. Oh and I find it weird whenever the GM replies, he is always addressing the comment right before his. Does he log in just to make a reply but only choosing the latest comment to reply to for the sake of replying? One of the blog post when new weapons came out, there was a ton of pirates asking on the blog how to get unlimited access, and the GM addressed the same question over and over again! I was thinking geez, he could have give us insight on something more. Or at least remove the same questions already asked!! |

They are suppose to monitor the comments so that they can be approved and then posted. I wonder if they do this then how are so many comments the same like BBW is saying. I checked back today and there are now 833 comments about what the navy is up to!!!! It's only been there for 2 days!!! It is really insane to let that many people comment on one topic.
They do have the Game Master's comments in a different color, dark brown with the GM skull, but you still have to search for theirs. |

With the various types of spelling and grammatical errors that have recently become more prevalent, the increasing amount of comments to each post, and the amount of very similar comments that are approved, I assume the POTCO Community Team is targeting the younger player. So it's probably a good idea to approve more comments for each Grog Blog entry. I do agree with djr 8fan that it has gotten out of hand and there should be a limited amount of comments approved.
Usually, the ADMIN comments are added well after comments are posted, but are "time stamped" so as to fit into the chronological order. |

What kind of annoys me with the GM responses is not just the fact that they keep reiterating the same answer to the same question, but the fact that they do it on the little posts like

Then there's the actual posts by people that have actual insight to it that get no recognition whatsoever. Due to this, they just kind of get passed up if you actually do take the time to read Grog Blog comments. Oh, and then there's this guy. Quote:

Why are some posts just silly.
I was looking through and the poster was Tim Tebow -_- How would they in the world approve that if they hand any sense? Then another person said, they're gonna build a hamster. I just hate it when they have repeated answers and etc. It is getting way out of hand. Here's the actual quotes Quote:

It's just fun for others to see guys. It's dumb but still. I know, even constructive comments from me haven't been accepted, ALOT.... But I have seen them accept criticism many times on their updates. Especially the breaking of account linking. Proffesionally, they should make a forums site like POF. They should have more connection with players than just the Grog Blog and Member Services and GM events. Runescape has forums, and also recognizes other fansites and forums. From what I've read, they have an official account on a certain social networking site, just as PotCo has an official one on another social networking site, but Runescape's team leaves loads and loads of messages. They give many many hints of upcoming updates. Check up on Wikipedia on how Runescape had begun its interactivity with players. Don't get me wrong, PotCo is still in many ways better than Runescape, by graphics players and combat. Players here are kinder than those ruffians there. In the updates PotCo has unofficially announced (opinion polls) such as Blacksmithing, Crafting, Trading, more items and new skills, the game will catch up to Runescape in commerce.
But PotCo needs to be proper in interactivity, and I shouldn't be seeing anything like D-Name changes, pre-written replies and messages, unreasonable banning. They should come more clean instead of the secrecy that withholds them. They should have better chatting with us and reply to us in a more appropriate manner. They should also take our suggestions fully, rather than over long periods of time |

Is the Grog Blog something that really needs to be taken this seriously? Not the blog itself. The comments. I mean the game is made by the Walt Disney Company, it is rated 10+ and, yet, we are surprised when children come and play and act like children? And use poor grammar?
I have looked at the comments to find the Admin posts. They are, for the most part, all the same nonsense. Quote:
![]() As for grammar? It's the Internet. But here is my quick Pirate's Internet Guide to Spelling or, P.I.G.S.
Follow those simple 4th grade rules and the other stuff is cake. Spell the big words wrong and no one cares. We chalk it up to typos. With tongue firmly in cheek, I bid you "Good Day." Semper Fidelis.

Very good points ex8484!!
I remember when...POTCO actually sent out newsletters to let us know what is going on. Recently we got something from them letting us know about the Darkfire Cutlass for unlimited players. However, the newsletter use to be more specific. I'm thinking that they are using the Current News and the Grog Blog to take the place of the newsletter. This makes it so they are actually less connected to us. I dont care if someone can't spell correctly in any form of chat as long as I can understand, but I do agree with exe8404 and his P.I.G.S. Yes this game is designed for kids to play too and I'm all for it. But POTCO needs to do their job and actually monitor the Grog Blog. Limit the posts says I!! That will allow more of the playing community to have a chance to enjoy reading what fellow pirates have to say. |
