Thanks for the reply Captain. MMO's typically do not have the level of individual story development as you are wanting to see. The code stream for that for every single player in the game would be ..... scary. You can get that from a one player console game because all they have to worry about is your character. MMO's have to be designed to handle many more player paths. They can do story archs on say character classes ( we dont' have that here) but again everyone who plays a wizard would follow that path. At some point all those Archs tie back to the main storyline and everyone is basically on the same page again but with different skill sets. Two Player characters interacting and created a questline is still out there I think as far as MMO's.
Grizzly made an excellent point earlier. I don't want this to be like other MMO's. You think you spend a lot of time lvling your weapons here LOL not even close. Imagine spending a week solid just killing monsters to get up a level. I am also glad we don't have to spend hours and hours harvesting ingredients to make our tonics and clothes and such. And thank you no cash shop!! Imagine those with the means buying 4x Rep bonus scrolls and uber weapons and such. These unbalance the play and divide the player base. One of the reasons I love this game is specifically for the lack of all this stuff. I can just get on the game and play!!! I don't have to block my time out and plan where/what I have to fight for the next two hours to advance my character.
The developers have to weigh what to add and what will it add to the game. This is a business and they have to make money. They then try and deliver what the fan base wants based on ease of creation and story progression. They are moving forward and we are getting new stuff to do. I know not everyone enjoys what they are adding. I am sure the new storyline will come in time.
But all I'm saying is that a lot of us want the same things. And Disney should listen to the major wants. There are really only three. The kraken, ship customization, and a new chapter. I also agree that the invasions are just getting old. I've done it, so now what? I think they're just trying to keep us waiting for new things.
We do all want different things and I am sure Disney is keeping an eye on what its fans want. Whether it be here, in game or on other fansites, i'm sure they will be earwigging.
The 3 things you list Angel have all been mentioned at various GM events, so at some point they will arrive in the game. But that will be at the RIGHT time and not before. Personally I love the invasions. It's an excellent time to get good rep, level up those weapons and work together with other pirates who you may even become good friends with. Next will be the Tortugan Invasions(already on test), and it was also mentioned that Padres will have Jolly arriving there too! ( I think I have the chat logs somewhere hehe ), along with new clothes and new weapons (plural) So, more things coming to these shores soon. Remember, all good things come to those who wait. lol.
I don't think POTCO will die off, especially with word of the new film. Peoples interest will be awakened again, and hopefully those who have taken a break (for whatever reason) will be tempted to its shores once again.
I went through the long drought of 2008 when nothing - NOTHING... no updates, no fixes, NADA was coming out. Not even ANY RP events that you fair-weather players moan about...
To some above who have only been here the past few months, you have no idea what patience is. Most of 2008 was horribly dry for new material, but we found things to do to keep the game fun and entertaining.
Many of the Guilds and pirates who have held on so long, UNDERSTAND that developing any material takes time. And let's be honest here, POTCO was rushed together for release between the 2nd and 3rd films to be used as a promotional tool. But, SINCE then - the team they have are making efforts, in particular just the past few months, to make the game better than ever and give it a future.
I, for one, only have a real beef with developers not acknowledging that a majority of their long-time and PAYING customers are adults. Or at least old enough to quality physically.

Reason: trolling

I don't want two of these three things.
The Kraken. A big smelly squid. Fine. Now...tell me how it will fit into the story, the game play, etc. Asking for the Kraken is fine. But I think it needs to be outlined exactly how it fits into the game.
Sailing is the one thing that POTCO has gotten spot on perfect, in my opinion. Changing it has been problematic at best. I am not sure they should "fix" what isn't broken. But I am keeping an open mind. If ship customization isn't about cosmetic improvements and is more about performance like cannons and armor and improved sails, then count me out.
A new chapter? It is all about the new chapter. Period. Give us that ( and I believe that we are as close as ever on that one) and I will be happy enough to keep spending $10 a month. But they better make it soon. Star Trek online will be out in February.

It's funny. The OP on this thread is a full year old. The thread hadn't been posted in for almost 5 months, and someone went and revived it. Now it's causing a stir again. Why? Lack of content, IMO.
Now before anyone goes on about the new filler material being content, let me just say that I have been a paying customer since Day One. I waited six months for them to fix the Boss Battle, I waited and was thrilled when clothing and tatoo shops opened and we could get quests for them, LOVED the weapons quests....it was something new to do that took more than ten minutes.
But none of it is content. Story Line Advancement is needed desperatly.
Fair weather players?? The majority of players that have been around since the begining are gone. I understand being patient, and real content takes time. They have had time. I'm not going to pretend that all is just peachy keen in the pirate world and Disney is giving me my money's worth. It's not in this pirates opinion, and I have spoken with my wallet on this one.
Aye, and I speak with my wallet ever year X 3. Have been playing since Feb 08 and still am having a blast. New content is here. Invasions are leading to that.
I went through the long drought of 2008 when nothing - NOTHING... no updates, no fixes, NADA was coming out. Not even ANY RP events that you fair-weather players moan about...
I would have to disagree. Much of 2008 was a lot of bug fixes and some new content. The major things they did release last year was Privateering, Skeleton Infestation Quest, Level 4 & 5 weapons, bosses, and clothing quests.
Check the release notes at Disney's site, quoted below in the spoiler tab, or the discussions in the News Archive (starting at page 5 working back up).

Added new Quests for Level 5 Weapons. These new Quests are unlocked when a weapon reaches Level 20 and only after the Level 4 Weapon Quest for that weapon has been completed. These new Quests involve defeating Boss Enemies, so make sure you have a crew to help fight them! The Level 5 Weapons are:
Pirate Blade (L5 Cutlass Weapon)
Bloodletter Dagger (L5 Dagger Weapon)
Grand Pistol (L5 Pistol Weapon)
Taboo Doll (L5 Voodoo Doll Weapon)
Vile Staff (L5 Voodoo Staff Weapon)
Boss Enemies can now be found in the Caribbean. They are marked by a glowing skull icon over their heads and are much more difficult to defeat than normal enemies of the same level. Some boss enemies will always spawn in the same location, while others are more rare and randomly spawn throughout the world.
The Dagger has been rebalanced with new abilities:
Backstrike - Attacking an enemy in the back using a Combo Attack now does aBackstrike and deals extra damage. However, attacking an enemy from the front with a Combo Attackdeals less damage than before.
Attunement Breaking - The Asp and Throw Dirt skills now can break Voodoo Doll Attunement on players and enemies. If a player using a Voodoo Doll is hit by these skills, they will lose their attunement and will need to re-attune their targets. Also, players who recently had an Attunement broken will be immune to further Attunement breaking for 30 seconds. Skeleton enemies who have their Attunement Broken will be unable to cast voodoo hexes for a short time.
Interrupt Ability- The Asp, Throw Dirt, and Viper Nest skills can now Interrupt another player who is charging an attack (such as Take Aim, Long Volley, and Staff Hexes). Interrupting a charge will cause that player to have to start his charge over again.
Throw Dirt also now gives a 25% reduced accuracy instead of 40% and lasts a shorter duration.
Trainer NPC's at local blacksmiths can now retrain your weapons, by retraining a weapon you can refund all your spent skill points and allow you to re-choose your skills for that same weapon.
Captains now have more control over who boards their ships with a new ship-boarding permission system. Additionally, players at dinghies now have a better interface for finding ships to board.
The Game Options interface is now more clear and easy to use.
The maximum size of Guilds has been increased to 500 members.
Fixed a major issue in Privateering affecting when players can make ship repairs.
Fixed a bug where players were not allowed to sell a ship if they could not carry the gold received from the sale.
Pistol and Grenades deal slightly more damage in PVP now.
The targeting sights for weapons now only turn red when the enemy is within range. The Voodoo Staff targeting sight turns yellow when the target is within range of a Blast and turns red when the target is within range for the selected Hex.
Improved the sky, as well as updated and optimized many visual effects throughout the game.
Health meters for enemy ships should no longer randomly disappear.
Enemy ships can now attack your ship after you've disabled a flagship (but not after you've boarded it).
Players can now replay The Black Pearl Boss Battle even after defeating the Goliath.
Fixed some animation issues with NPC's that occur when players interact with them, also updated NPC movement to be smoother and less erratic.
Fixed an issue where crew members were not receiving their crew bonus when sailing on larger ships.
Fixed a bug preventing enemies from recovering Health and Voodoo. Since enemies now recover Voodoo again, Hex Eater no longer permanently disables a Voodoo Doll using enemy. Constant Hex Eater shots will still keep an enemy's Voodoo near zero (preventing heavy spell-casting). Once the shots stop, the enemy will recover his Voodoo slowly and begin casting spells again.
Green and Grey leveled enemies yield slightly more Reputation Points than before

This year has been mostly Disney redoing the game environment (story chapter, islands, caves) to what seems to be what they had intended before rushing the game out in Oct '07. The recent updates with the Invasions and Ghosts just seem a little out of whack - like it doesn't seem to be in the same game we knew. As far as GM events go, unless it's noted on their site / lore, I'm not really even considering them canon.
Not even ANY RP events that you fair-weather players moan about...
What is a "fair-weather player"? If I stop supporting my team because they are doing badly then I might be "fair-weather" but when money and time are involved, I think players have every right to be what you'd call "fair-weather."
