Prolouge to my story.

I don't have a title, but this is a pirate love story. It isn't half bad I think...

“Mia…” my mother, Evangeline, said softly.
I slowly opened my eyes to see her smiling face. “There is a new family that has come to the village. We need to dress and eat. Then we shall go greet them.” she said.
I sat up slowly and nodded softly. I was still half asleep. I was only 4 years old then. A very innocent and well-behaved 4 year old indeed. My mother was a gentle and kind soul. She loved me dearly. She wanted the best for me…and from the moment I was born to today, she seems like the only person who understood me.
“They are a rather small family. In fact, they are just a father and son. The son is about your age. He’s… six I believe.” my mother said.
I smiled at the thought of another child. I was always so adventurous and up for anything. My mother wasn’t bothered by it, but the other women in the village were very sophisticated. They expected all girls to be polite, courteous, and like pretty little porcelain dolls. However, in my opinion, that is completely overrated. Anyways, I quickly got out of my bed and dressed in a light pink cotton dress with short sleeves. I put on my usual casual shoes and scuttled over to the breakfast table.
I sat down and ate my oatmeal with a few drops of vanilla extract. We were lucky to have vanilla in the house at all. It had been the last bottle in the shipment from Madagascar.
My mother, father, and I walked over to the new family’s house. My mother knocked on the door gently.
“Hello…?” she asked.
A tall man with tanned skin, thick curly black hair, and dark brown eyes answered the door.
“Aye…” he said smiling.
“My name is Robby Finch. And… Eric!” he shouted.
A little boy walked towards us. He looked like his father, but his eyes were a deep blue. Blue like the sea. “This is my son, Eric.” he said putting his arm around his son.
Eric smiled shyly and waved. “Hello Eric.” I said smiling.
I stared into his eyes. Something about his eyes drew me to him, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. He looked at me oddly and chuckled. He obviously didn’t think much of it.

For the next 7 years we became the absolute best of friends. We went through everything together. He taught me how to live on a ship. We even went through a “training camp”. He built a miniature ship out of some branches, spare wood, an old blanket, and some twine.
It was actually fairly enjoyable. I had to survive living on the “ship” for one entire day. He said “I had passed with flying colors”. I hadn’t known what he’d meant, but I know now that that means I did exemplary. And…he helped me through one very hard time in my life…when I lost my mother to pneumonia. It was a very hard time for my family. And for Eric and his father as well. Eric wouldn’t leave my side for a year after her death. He always thought of my mother as his own because his father and mother separated before Eric was one. His mother couldn’t care for him. So she had no choice but to give Eric to Robby. And when I cried, Eric cried. Do you remember how I said that my mother was the only one who understood me? Well she was until I met Eric. Eric and I did so many things together. We talked, and played, and imagined. And I learned something secret about Robby. Eric told me that Robby is a pirate. A real life pirate! Robby makes his money from his journeys. He travels around the world to make a living. That, was why Eric’s mother left. She had fallen in love with a pirate. And she was overcome with shame. She had to hide that part of her past from her family. She was a beautiful girl with wealth, power, and a title. She was a countess. Her title would have been dropped had anyone known she’d fallen in love with a scurvy dog.
Before I knew it, I was 14, and Eric was 16. After being together for ten years, we were unseparable. Sadly, Robby had to pack up his belongings and leave. The British sent notice to the village that they were coming to see how our little colony was doing.
Robby knew that they had been looking for him for the past few years. He wasn't a bad man, he hadn't harmed anyone to the point of demise, or anything like that. All he did was con and trick people out of their gold and jewels. However, the British still considered Robby as a criminal. So he had no choice but to leave. Robby was a very good friend of mine, and I hated to see him go, but what really tore my heart to pieces was the fact that Eric wanted to go with him. I begged Eric to stay, but my tears didn't sway his decision His father wasn't as young as he used to be, and Eric was excruciatingly worried that something might happen to his father if he were alone.
A week before the British said they were going to be here, Eric and Robby said their farewells, and left our little village by the sea. Eventually, the two settled down somewhere south of our island. I believe they went to some french colony or something. Eric soon started writing me letters telling of his new life. We wrote back and forth for two years. Everytime I recieved a new letter, I was overjoyed, and I read each one at least six times.
Yesterday, I got another letter from Eric. The contents of said letter made me cry tears of pure joy. He told me he and his father would be back to the village by spring. I looked out the window at the ocean, and smiled. "Just three months until I see them." I said with a finally happy heart.
