Pirates of the Caribbean Online Hands-On

IGN have had a hands on preview of a beta version of Pirates Online, click here to read the full article. Below is a snippet of the article and I must say there is some VERY interesting information about the game in this article.

Quote:
Disney Online plans on releasing the game with two pricing tiers. The first one's subscription free, though not all of the game will be accessible to players. From what we were told, it sounds like you'll be able to create a character and learn all the game's skills, but certain zones would be inaccessible to you. The more dedicated or wealthy players can drop funds on a $9.95 USD monthly fee to get full access to the game.

Before jumping in to the game world, things start off at a character creation screen. Here you'll find loads of ways to customize your character's nose, pants, clothing colors and styles, eyes, hair color, and numerous other aspects. Though it's planned to be implemented before the game's release, there wasn't any way to enter your own character name in the build we saw. Instead, you had to pick a first name, then pairs of words to combine and form the last name. After tweaking appearances to your liking, into the game you go.

Very cool. Thanks for the info.

Though no info on when we can get into Beta. If Beta is being tested, they sure have a tight lid on it!

Very interesting read. From what I took out of that article, pirates doesn't seem to give a wide variety of character class and play. For $9.95, I hope the quests are worth it.

I think the mini-games will be a cool addition, as well. I only play one other MMO and there are no mini-games. So I can't wait to see how they incorporate these.

I'm assuming is will be loosly the same as Toontown. But with a pirate theme and slightly better graphics annimations

Toontown has skill classes (drop, squirt etc..)

Toontown has mini games

etc. etc.

It rather seems that way with all the new info and screenshots.

But seeing as its based on the ToonTown Engine, then I'd be leaning towards it being slightly the same game feel.

I assume you play/have played Toontown. How does it compare to other MMO's you've played?

I only have played one other MMO, The Matrix Online. I love it, but I am ready for something else.

That game allows you to customize your loadouts under any class at any time. Great graphics. But not very imersive content day to day.

Toontown

Toontown is my first experience with an online game and I love it. It is structured for young kids, but so many adults have become obsessed with it. Creating your toon is fun and easy and then with the tasks you have to complete in order to max your toon as you progress through the different environments of the game, you don't have time to get bored.

Once your toon is maxxed however, game play gets a bit boring. There is side lights such as fishing, racing, and gardening but it is almost better to work on those as you are in the process of maxxing your toon.

Once they added the Headquarters to the game, the dynamics changed and the game became slightly less fun. There was more negative player actions and the headquarter sections are more graphic intensive so older computers can't really do those sections easily. I personally avoid them unless I can use my husband's computer for them.

Overall, toontown is fun, easy to learn, a great way to make friends, and highly addictive;-) I imagine Pirates will be the same way.
