Umbra guild for the Disney Online game Pirates of the Caribbean



A small static forward thinking guild is now forming, and offers new members an opportunity to expand with it. Because of the potential that Pirates of the Caribbean offers and the hope for future growth, the new guild Umbra is being established in order to grow with the game. Our goal will be to have a roster of 12-15 players within a month (approximately third to fourth week of August.) Our vision for the guild will be a light RP, free PVEVP organization. Candidates should meet the following requirements:

(1) Available play time between the hours of Nine to Twelve eastern time at least two to three times a week.

(2) Maturity of mind – Maturity is a concept not an age group. However we will hopefully be a group whose primary consideration will be the enjoyment of the game together. Members should not join if their motivation is to “get the guild to do for them”. This attitude will be frowned upon.

(3) The guild should want to group together first before any others. You should want to jump onboard a guild ship before a public.

(4) Use of Ventrilo will be stressed. Ventrilo is a highly reliable team speak application that is easily configured and set up. We believe that using this application will make questing, and ship to ship battle in PvE and PvP much more effective, thus we will require all members to use. (Please note this will require each person to own and use either a microphone or a headset.)

(5) Players will not required to be of any particular level range, but due to the nature of the organizational structure you will be asked to declare a skill focus (described later). The guild will be at creation, a leveling and questing facilitator for its members so we will not dictate any requirements for “level caps”.

(6) Players should reflect a “family first” attitude. Each person in the guild should always remember that this is just a game, and your real life should always be your priority. If your family needs you then we will make no effort to restrain you from them. However, please be considerate enough of the guild to manage your game time if you made arrangements to do any extensive team oriented events in game. We will never come between you and your real life, but if you say you will be at a guild event, then we would hope you will make suitable arrangements with your family to honor that.

(7) The guild will establish a “Light RP” title system. This will be done only for the sake of game RP and not reflect on players otherwise. The title that you as a player will be given will reflect your “primary focus” as it stands towards your characters current skill levels. Titles will be:
a. Captain – Focus is on Sailing and Cannons
b. Dragoon – Focus is on martial weapons (Pistols, Rapier, Dirk)
c. Mystic – Focus is on damage oriented Voodoo
d. Healer – Focus is on life giving subsets of Voodoo doll

(8) We will also be looking for players who exhibit strong knowledge of the game in order to help other members of the guild. A few of these are:
a. Loremaster : This person should be keenly aware of the game and movie lore and be able to answer any questions that arise.
b. Cartographer : This person should be proficient with locations in game and be able to assist other members with those locations. (i.e. “where can I find X creature?” or “where is X island?”
c. Battlemaster : This person should be available in order to facilitate navel and land battles and locations. (i.e. “Where is the best location for level 20 navy ships?” or “Where can I find high level skeletons?”.)
d. (Wo)Man – at – Arms: This person should exhibit strong knowledge of abilities found in the skills trees and be able to answer questions surrounding them. (I.e. “What does five out of five in the ‘shoot’ ability do for me?” Or “Should I invest in ‘Full Sail’ and how many points”’?

(9) We will strive to organize at least one guild event for players on average of one per six weeks. Events could be of the following variety:
a. Races – both naval and land based
b. Guild sponsored poker tournaments
c. Fashion shows
d. Island cruises (BYoB!)

(10) We will work towards a website and message boards for public and guild use within six months of establishing our primary membership goal.

Fairly organized... and voice chat might be a nice touch even when not in SvS or PvP - very good for officer meetings, you can get a lot more accomplished very quickly and no typos.

Good that you're not stressing notoriety level. I've actually told officers not to actively seek just high ranks and in fact most of my officers are well below Master Pirate. Get'em while they're still hungry and enjoy the challenge of the game.

Just a quick update

The name Shadowcraft was rejected, however I was able to finalize the guild name "Umbra". In a way, this is fortunate, as it reflects a good core name to use. The word Umbra as some may know is the darkest point of any shadow. Unfortunately I wasn't able to change the title of the thread, only the interior. Hopefully this won't be to confusing for any .

I'm seeing a lot of veteran guild remarks,which I am very grateful for. If I might ask, what recruiting strategies do you use to get your quality players? I'm hoping to use this site for approximately 1/5 of my initial core, and in game "stand and ad" for 3-5 more. Are there any other ways of attracting members? Thanks in advance for any help .

a good way of recruiting pirates is sitting outside a jail in a populated server and wait for somebody to come out, havent tried it meself but have heard of success stories

DW rarely recruits ingame. Since it is too hard to explain the guild, or go through the recruiting process, in chat. If someone asks in game to become a member, we usually bring them outgame, here to the forums, to finalize the recruiting process.

If you are truely trying to sign on your core team first, random recruiting on a crowded server is the same as fly-by friend requests. A NO-NO.
