Quest Solution: Bowdash's Chest (Tormenta Cave)

A few of you may have obviously completed this quest, but here is my guide on how to complete it. You must do this to complete your Black Pearl story quest.

It rewards 1,000 notoriety.

You have to search and find a buried treasure chest deep within Isla Tormenta because Davy Jones wants the key within... and Bowdash has been given the Black Spot by Jones, and wants leverage to redeem himself.

The catch? In the Tormenta Cave are level 30 to 40 crewmen of the Flying Dutchman!

The best plan is to be at least level 30, have healing tonics and a powerful level 20 weapon to use as your primary.

The chest you seek is in an insanely guarded little hell-hole within, half way through the cave you will see an opening to a side passage on the right. a broken ship flanks each side. Go in there, and cut to the right again. At the end of a crevace, is the ONLY chest in this cave, and believe me I looked for an easier one!

GOOD NEWS is that while you dig, you are far away from Jones' crew so won't be attacked!

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks this did help a lot! I actually picked up one attacker on the way in, but as soon as I got in and to the farthest cave wall it miraculously stopped attacking me! When I got my health back up I looked around for the chest, started digging and was able to come up with the chest uninterrupted :-) Phew! Thought I was going to be seeing the inside of a jail cell a few more times before completing! Now if only the quest for Capt. Montrose could decide what kind of ship it wants me to go after... ;-)

Wink Omg!

Thank you so much for posting that! I had not thought to dig around behind the ship. I don't know that the key is so much being level 30 with huge weapons (I'm level 26 with 17 voodoo as my highest level weapon). The key is more being polite, patient and stealthy as all get-out (think Kingshead, only moreso).

99% done with the Black Pearl! Woot!

Thank you! If you hadn't written this, I never would have looked there. If you go slow enough, after killing the guy at the very front, you'll be fine, I didn't even end up using 1 of the 6 health tonics I bought LOL.

Well u definitely dont have to be level 30 or have a level 20 weapon to complete this quest. I am level 24 and only level 15 doll as highest weapon. Thanks to the excellent directions I sneaked past all enemies and found the spot relatively quickly. Thank ye so much!

Try going in the back way. That is, go in the entrance on the far left end of the island. The undead on that end are either dregs or flotsom and are the lowest level enemy in the cave. You can sneak past it fairly easily. There are a couple of vampire bats, but they too should be easy to get around.

On the lower landing you should find either a flotsom or spineskull by itself. You should be able to sneak past them as well. Note that the spineskull throws grenades so either get up close and attack it or be carefull enough to stay away from it.

On the way down the next ramp you will see a couple of higher level enemy. Normally a seabeard or molusk. Both are nasty and will take you out fast so stay as far right going down as you can. Pause before you get to the bottom and note where the moving undead are. Most stay in one spot but several walk from one area to another. You will be going to the left and going toward the far wall past the boat debris. Just time it so you can walk while the moving are out of the way.

I've helped several guild mates with this and never been attacked. I also now hunt in this cave quite often (level 34) and I can tell you that getting around without being attacked is easy if you watch the movers and take your time.

I posted pictures of the dig spot in my wild island guide in the tips and guide section.

I don't know. I tried to follow the directions but something keep chasing me and killing me with a blue white puff of something or other. I never even see what it was.
I think I'll give the back door a try next time, but man, that place scares me!

Going in from the back entrance I had to go to the right, not the left. I kept trying to go left and kept getting killed, lol. Since I was standing on the right waiting I turned around and walked in farther and found the dig spot.

Now, if only the Boss battle was available... *sigh*

I go to tormenta quite often as it is the only real place left with any challenge at my level. The reason some of you have problems is that too many people want to rush in and run right to where they need to go. You may be able to do that here, but if you are not over level 35 I wouldn't advise it. Go in and watch the path of those that move for a minute and plan out a route that doesn't get you too close to the bad guys. Even going in the front way there are only maybe 3 or 4 that move that you really need to look out for.

Front entrance: Stay to the right as you come in. You can squeeze by the debris on the right to turn the corner and head up the hill. There are a couple of different moving enemy past the debris. One can be somewhere on the hill itself so watch where it is and move when the hill is clear. When you get to the level area you see lots of little mounds where some of the skels may be digging. Most stand in one spot and never move while others move from time to time. If you stand right on the wall on the right you are safe while you watch to see their movement. There is a part of a boat blocking the wall on the right and your dig spot is directly on the other side of it. All you have to do is wait for things to move and go around that boat and back to the wall again and there is your spot. Just be patient.

Updating my back door directions, when you come down the hill the dig spot is on the far wall away from and slightly to the left as you come down the hill. The ship coming out of the wall is almost in front of you and you need to get just to the left of it to find the dig spot.

Look at the pictures of the dig area in my guide to the wild islands in the tips and guide section for better reference.
