Social filters

Unless I'm just missing something, POTCO doesn't seem to have any social filters with the exception of ships. Even then, it's just controls that let players decide who can hop on the ship.

I would love to see filters that allow players to block incoming friend requests and guild requests.

I'm no stranger to MMOs and it's my understanding that it's generally considered rude to send random invites without whispering first. Random invites happen regardless, in any MMO. I realize this. Still, I wish there was a way to block invites. If I wanted to be in a guild, I'd look for one. I purposely choose quiet servers just to avoid the constant onslaught of guild invites.

I actually did have one person ask the other day if I needed a guild. I appreciated that, because that's the only time someone asked first. I politely declined, but the person had already logged off, or teleported. (Kinda made me wonder though, why ask if you're not gonna give the person time to answer. Oh well)

I'm half-way tempted to accept the next guild invite I get, just so I won't get anymore. It's a little frustrating when I'm running through town to turn in a quest or something and have 2 or 3 invite windows thrown up on my screen on the way.

Hard to say what happen to the request you had, they may have just crashed. Its a lot less often ya actually get some talk to ya first rather than just hit the guild button. If I am on one of the 40's, and a gm event or something its unreal.

Best way around it is make a guild just for yourself, one member.

It IS rude for people to just come up and invite you!
If they at least introduce themselves, say hello, ask if you are interested, then that is different.

You basically have 3 options:
1) Just keep ignoring them. Say no all the time.
2) Make your own guild, once they see a name over your head, they won't ask anymore.
3) Join a guild that will appreciate your desire to play solo, and won't pressure you into anything. (Here though, you still will see guild chat constantly scrolling by.)

I don't feel bad for answering no as they do receive a message that states "no thank you" (or something along those lines). It's not like we said "heck no!". However, I like having some conversation prior to just adding a random Pirate to my list.

"My Momma always said....Pirates is like a box of chocolates......you never know what you're gonna get..."

or you could simply create a guild just so you would have something listed under your pirates name. Maybe that would be enough to stop the guild requests.

I too agree with making your own guild. I've done that several times. Of course, that doesn't address the run-by friend and crew requests. I agree with Sammy - a filter would be helpful.

I reject every random friend invite I get. I've never talked to them before, so why should I think I will talk to them in the future? Maybe some people just go around with the intention of friending every single person they come across, but that's not for me.

Glad to see others in favor of more filter options. In the meantime though, I did create a guild for myself. I'm curious now though, how long does it take to get the guild name approved? I requested a name, but didn't know if it went through or not because there wasn't an option to submit it to Disney. I guess I'll just be happy with my generic guild name for the time being. It'll still eliminate random guild invites being thrown my way.

I think they should have a "Kick off Ship" option but not for just SVS. Once i got my war frigate stuck (nobody could take the wheel) and i asked ppl to get off my ship but nobody did, so i couldn't use my ship for almost an hour until they finally got off.

I see this is a very old thread, but hey.

I found out that on Test as of recently, they added a "Block Guild Requests" option. As far as I know, there isn't an option to block it at any time. However, if someone asks you to join their guild, you get the choice of ignoring Guild Invites. Thats all I know. Aren't you guys happy?

I agree i would like to see an option for blocking random guild and friend invites. I'm a veteran player and I've been in a guild most of my time in the game so I don't get a lot of guild invites. I find the random friend invites especially irritating, especially when in battle and having one of those pop up windows opening up blocking my view. I was very glad when they introduced the boarding permissions for our ships.
Back when I first began playing "Pirates" was my first online gaming experience and I didn't know any better than to accept all those random friend invites my first couple days of playing.

As a result I spent a couple of miserable week not being able to launch my ships without having a half dozen random idiots teleporting onboard and getting me sunk. This was before the boarding permissions days. It took a while to weed out the friend lists getting rid of all the problem people and the people who randomly teleport to you without first asking permission, which is another pet peeve of mine.

I've been away from the game for a while and recently returned and I have noticed that Disney does seem to be taking action toward the guild invite spammers and friend invite spammers as I'm not seeing this happen as often as it was last year.
