Reporting Multiple Times
During my pre-work privateering today I boarded a public ship that had a disgusting player on it. He started out making inappropriate comments in the local chat, then went to whispering to me. I reported him. We sank shortly after and I'm having major glitch problems with SVS lately, so of course I glitched and had to log off and back on. I went back to the ship I was on and he began making even worse comments to me. I let them build a while then tried to report him again, and it said he'd already been reported and wouldn't let me do a second report.
My question is, why? I was enjoying the crew and SVS battles on that ship, and I didn't want to switch ships just because of one person. If his comments got progressively worse the second time around, shouldn't that be something I can report again? I didn't say anything back to him other than telling him (in local chat, because another crew member had heard some of the earlier comments) that he'd been reported once and needed to stop whispering gross things to me. He eventually shut up and left the ship but it really irritated me that it wouldn't let me report him again. Is there any particular reason they won't let you report multiple times, or just another feature of PotCO that maybe needs tweaking?

I can sort of see both sides of this. I'm sure Disney gets absolutely swamped with reports, and I have a feeling a lot of reports aren't very legitimate. I've been reported several times for remarking that one player or another is an idiot, but those reports have never resulted in a boot. This tells me that Disney is willing to recognize the triviality of some reports. I think this may be a way to stop someone from reporting a player over and over and over because if this was allowed, who knows how many reports Disney would have to go through? On the other hand, I certainly think someone who continues to make foul or offensive comments deserves to have ALL their actions examined. So basically, I agree with you but I definitely understand why things are set the way they are.

I'm sure it's intentional to only allow one report on a user within a certain [unknown] timeframe to prevent over reporting (and abuse of the system).
Once that player had been reported, D will look through the chat logs and find the inappropriate behavior from the time you reported it and probably will find the chat that progressively got worse along with it. I would think your one report at the start is enough as it is notifying D that there is a problem with a user. That first notification is enough for them to look through the logs and see what they can dig up. It's not like they're just going to read up to the minute that you reported it. If anything they'll probably give the same punishment (72 hours) no matter when you reported throughout the ordeal.

True, I'm sure they get an unreal amount of reports. I can see your point on that. I got threatened with a report once for asking someone on my ship why they were shooting grappling hooks at Sea Vipers. LOL. I usually ignore players like this but I just couldn't stand to not report him.
I didn't know if, since I had to log out, it would reset the chat logs they view or not. Hopefully not, because he apparently got mad at me for not responding and just kept going. Gah...some people are just weird. =/ |

I'm just surprised that you could continue to see ther remarks and chat after you reported them. The (very) few times I have reported someone, it has put them on 'ignore' and I have never seen any of their chat after that. It was the one thing that prevented me from using the report feature. Once they were on ignore, I couldn't see what they were continuing to rant about. It's somtimes more fun to just ignore them outright, and watch them get madder and madder!

On the rare occasions that I've had this type of issue.....I just sat there and thought...what type of an individual would talk to anyone like this?? I was dumbfounded at first but then realized these people just have a complete lack of respect. Not only are they disrespecting others but Disney as well. Do they forget kids play this game (although it could have been a kid/teen exhibiting this behavior) ??.
I was SO ANGRY the last time it happened to me....my hands were shaking after I reported it. Unfortunately we had a large crew so several others had to hear what was said in public chat. This person was probably reported several times in a matter of minutes by the crew. This obviously disrupted the fun we were having and the crew was walking around for several minutes after that. Some of the crew logged off in disgust. The fact that they could care less about the game or others is just pitiful! If they want to talk trash take it elsewhere. Just the other day in PVP the other Pirate was crossing the line with smack talk after I beat him a couple of times. Fortunately...it ended up being a great PVP battle and we both ended on a positive note. Some things you can brush off....others need to be addressed accordingly. Having said that....should this type of behavior not have a harsher punishment than those that are getting banned for simply talking about chat interfacing and other trivial issues? This seriously needs to be revamped.

LOL akamystic...I think we were dealing with the same person!
Basically I was just worried that the only chat the Mods would see is the one going on right as I reported him and not the one from the second round of foolishness after I logged back on...hopefully they can see all the things that were said. I've only reported one other person in my time on Pirates, and it was for something similar. I know there are more than a few people out there that have nothing better to do than harass others, but it can only go so far. And Basil, I was surprised I could still see the incoming messages too. It had the little screen telling me they were going to be ignored the rest of the session, but I still saw the incoming stuff. Like I said, he finally got tired of me ignoring him and left to go bother someone else. I got more concerned about sinking the Light Sloop that was leading the opposing side on SVS than listening to him though. =) |
