Progressively worse graphics

So, we've all seen the new colorful pirates, Vulcan Green, People Eater Purple, Raspberry Red, and various other colors. It's kind of funny to see the pirates looking sooooo...odd.

So, I started really watching to see how long it takes for the graphics to begin to deteriorate when I started playing. And I found that it wasn't a matter of time played, but what you did in the game that caused the deterioration.

Main culprit: Shops/Pubs

Upon entering one of the shops, I noticed that my graphics settings seemed to be "brighter". Like turning up the brightness on your tv too high. Upon exiting, my pirate's skin tone and hair color, as well as clothes, seemed to be a brighter, and slightly different color.

Secondary culprit: Teleporting

Teleporting to another pirate or another island, or a ship, seems to cause a further degradation of the graphics.

It gets to a point where I have to totally shut down the game and log back in to get decent graphics.

A very wise pirate told me to set my default graphic to openGL, and my color issues are all better. Edges are softer too!

Thx, SKip. I have an XP desktop, Vista desktop, and a Vista laptop. I experimented with the settings on each machine changing from dx9 to OGL and running the game for at least an hour on each machine with the changes. OGL is definately better, and it actually takes longer for the graphics to degrade, but degrade they do. Something in the latest build is not right, and if you play for more than 30 minutes, the graphics begin to deteriorate.

This usuallty begins to occur with the first visit to the blacksmith or ammo store. You go in and it just appears a little "brighter" than normal. As soon as you exit, you notice that not only is it brighter, but the colors are now "off kilter". What was blonde hair is now orange or perhaps gray. After you've gone to see Joshamee, it gets to a point wear it is darn near unplayable if you have to actually aim at a mast when sailing.

So, you then log out, log back in, and start the entire cycle again.

Looks like they finally got to the graphics. Got a small update before going in. Instant I got in I could tell things were quite a bit different, best I can tell also the color problem got straighten out.

Just got the videos I did done in time, haha.
