Yep, ever wonder why an obsolete (per MS) operating system that they planned on discontinuing support for last year is still an option?

No, never tried to blame it for issues with Pirates, this thread was merely comments on the OS itself, and MS's misguided tactics trying to sell it.

This does not counter the fact that Vista is inherently slower than XP.

Well I have stayed with xp, fighting many different attempts to downgrade to vista.

That is my oppinion, where others doing other activities may not notice /or find much a difference.

XP has had its issues though, and for many avoiding service pack 3. While also it was messed up and wouldn't update this.

Been some headaches to keep it.

I have seen some of these comercial ploys lately by some companies. Really has to make you think what you are buying, and whats the untold story in many things we buy.

What I am going to tell you is really funny. And as OFxZeppers states, MS is just trying to sell the Vista product ASAP by giving it a different name. But the funny thing is that, if you try to buy a new DELL, say, Laptop, and you want to costumize it, if you get it with any Vista Home Premium version, it will be cheaper then if you would get it with Windows XP. Now, Why MS want to discontinue support for XP if the demand and price is greater then Vista Home Premium? The price will be the same as XP if you get it with Vista Ultimate version. I really think MS is frustrated and trying to rip off people. That commercial of Windows Mojave looks so fake and unconvincing. Anyway, XP rules, regardless.

The only downside I feel with XP Pro 32 bit is I only see 3.2 gig of my 4 gigs of ram
and that is max regardless of the slots or chips.

Not sure but think Vista has at least 8 gigs for the basic 32 bit version. For me presently it is really not to big of a drawback as my board only has 4 slots for DDR3 ram and the 2gig modules have higher latency and do not support very high over clocking compared to the 1 gig chips.

Service pack 3 for XP is downright EVIL and should be avoided unless absolutely needed.

When I load a fresh install of windows XP pro it is service pack 2 and I go online and update Direct X 9.0C, Widows media player 11, and internet explore 7
Nothing else period. I do not even use explorer as I use Firefox I just update it in case I might need it.
Nothing else PERIOD people should be aware that Microsoft is NOT your friend.
watch the movie pirates of silicon valley to find out how Microsoft got where they are today.

You all might find it a bit interesting that Microsoft has extended XP's official lifetime to May 2009... right when Windows 7 is supposed to be coming out!

It looks like even they're starting to realize people hate Vista enough to literally skip it entirely.
