Navy ships gang up on you now?
Okay - thanks to prior thread I was finally able to get back on tonight after close to 3 weeks of having to turn the movies on to hear the music (yes, I know - get a life) - wanted to build my morale up on one of my pirates that had seen too many jail sentences and figured I go blow up a few ships - always helped in the past - so I sail out of Port Royal and I've got 6 or 7 Navy ships following me and shooting like crazy at me in my tiny sloop - barely made it back to port... is this something new? I had heard they fired back, but to gang up on you now? I hadn't even fired at any of them! Has this happened to anybody else and how on earth do you get past them? thanks mates!

I'll have to remember that - alt-F4... used to be one could get decent morale building and decent loot by heading out to sea but I guess they really want us to have crews (even though I've always been a solo player in the past) - anyway, glad I'm not alone

It all depends on how you sail your ship.
I have noticed a trend ever since I entered the game a while back. People will sail their boat/ship almost right up next to a Navy or EITC ship. That ship takes notice and starts shooting. A short fight ensues. The player ignores that other ships nearby, which are on a 'patrol' will wander close to the player's position. Those then take notice and also start blasting the player. The player flees, sailing off in ANY DIRECTION....usually directly into more enemy ships. Next thing you know, a parade of 8 ships will arrive in Tortuga or Port Royal..with the player in the front. The player docks & repairs his badly damaged ship. The enemy ships all start sailing over the landscape. Other people already docked start pounding away at the enemy ships. The day is saved. The player then goes out and does it all over again. And again. Almost like they meant to drag all those ships to port. I have also noticed that there are certain 'pirates' who have staked out areas for themselves. If they have been fighting the same ships there for an hour, they consider the area as their personal 'camping' spot. Any other player that engages an enemy ship that the certain players are not fighting, that player will get shot at by the certain players. Sort of like "This is my playground, go find your own!" attitude. Fine by me...I shoot back. I don't expect 'pirates' to play fair anyway! LOL Be sure to keep the Sail Side UP and the Keel Side DOWN! It happens sometimes, best idea is to run and dock, then teleport off your ship and go out again, berfore your sunk!

EITC and Navy ships are usually NOT alone. The trick in any game is to watch how the enemies move and position yourself prior to attacking. Watch the ships as they circle around. Some have large patrol circles, some have small patrol circles. Pick your spot outside all of their patrol circles then blast away at a ship.
You can always 'cherry pick' the outer ships and not get near the inner big ships. There are a few ships out near Cuba that are all alone. Those are great upon which to practice your Broadside shooting/sailing skills. Be safe and sink some Navy scum! Arrr! Dolnor Numbwit Eternal Newbie aka Will/Billy Greasefish

Okay, I'm starting to take it personal - LOL - I just went out on my main pirate - steered clear of any enemy ships I saw but they took off after me - at one point I had at least 8 chasing me, all firing at me... the really crazy thing was even the little slower/lower level sloops were running ahead of me to get into position to fire at me!!! How can that be? I was on my fastest ship -grr - if I had a crew I still don't think we could have fought them all off - very strange how they ganged up.... do you think maybe notoriety level might have something to do with it? my sailing level is only 1 but notoriety is 8 - I wonder....

I never thought of notoriety level. I'm only level 5 and only get 2 ships at me at the most. That is a very good point. Or maybe it goes on your cannon level because ever since I got level 2 on my cannons I've been getting to pirate ships.
Or maybe, it's just a bug that might get fixed sometime. ~Cpt.Sea

hmm - was cannon level 6 almost 7 on that pirate - - I wonder if that makes a difference - it certainly does in other areas so maybe here too

Well, when I get back on, I'm going to get my cannon level up a lot and see if that does anything. But, you could always buy or conquer another ship and test that out.

I am currently level 11 on both Notoriety and Cannon skills. I don't have ships chasing me. But I also don't rely on my buggy radar. I use the old Eyeballs to tell me if I am getting too close to a ship.
If'n they are not to be sunk, they are only in the way. I try NOT to treat them racing slalom gates...weaving around them as I pass....it is hard but I do try. -) Toodles, Dolnor Numbwit Eternal Swabby aka Will/Billy Greasefish

I have a question that is a lilttle off topic but it does fit in a way. It is, how do you get your sailing and ship level ups? I can get the cannon up but nothing else..
