Harry Potter 6 going for July '09
The fan petitions are still growing. The movie is still not coming out.
Friday was supposed to be the day Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened. Instead, over the summer, Warner Bros. rescheduled the franchise's latest adventure for next July, a move that caused a fan upset that hasn't entirely settled. "I think most fans are disappointed more than angry, and definitely skeptical of the real motive behind the delay," said Sara Greer, editor of the Harry Potter fan site MuggleNet. A fan identifying herself as Jen Stewart said in an email she felt the studio was "pandering" when it pointed out the reschedule—attributed, in part, to fallout from the writers' strike—meant a shorter wait between Half-Blood Prince and the first part of the two-part finale, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. "I don't know about everyone but I am still just as upset as I was over the summer," Stewart said. Interestingly, the recent release of the new Half-Blood Prince trailer doesn't seem to have appeased the most seriously aggrieved. Dozens and dozens of new names are still being added to one popular online petition that's more sounding board than call to action. "Ahhh. I can't wait until next year! I want it this year," one signer wrote Thursday. The post's emoticon tag— —left no doubt as to how badly the signer wanted it.Greer even compared the new trailer to a "bit of torture." "The new trailer was a treat, sure, it just made a lot of us more impatient to see the film," she said in an email. "Especially since all the Twilight fans will get their fangirl on instead!" Ah, yes, Twilight... In one more painful twist, the Half-Blood Prince trailer is attached to prints of Twilight, the based-on-a-best-seller movie that is opening Friday because Half-Blood Prince isn't. (Originally, Twilight was going to hit theaters in December.) "A former MuggleNet editor commented she was probably going to see Twilight just for the new trailer in all its big-screen glory," Greer said. "I think I'll just reread the books and wait for summer." |

I'm a big Harry Potter fan myself.
It didn't release during summer because of the Dark Knight. They didn't want the competition. I don't see why they don't release it during Christmas. I'm sure they'd make more than enough money during the two short weeks kids are out of school for christmas break. Also, did you hear that they're making two movies for the seventh book? It's so big they thought two movies would be needed. |

They didn't want to release 6 during Christmas due to the new movie Twilight, they didnt want to compete with it. They moved it to the summer of '09 thinking that they had better luck during the summer months and due to the fact that HP star Daniel Radcliffe was busy in NYC doing his Broadway debut with the play Equus. And yes, 7 will be split into 2 movies, one being released in '10 and part two in '11. This is one HP fan who cannt wait themselves for the movie release

They wouldn't need to compete with it but it's too late. They obviously haven't taken the time to see what they're competing with during summer of 09. Hopefully the sixth movie wont be as much of a disappointment as the fifth movie. |

HP was due in november but thanks to twilight the studio pushed HP and a lot of other films around to other dates in order to secure a successful film and to make a better box. One of the most important films that was moved around was Quantum. I have that article somewhere i'll find it at post more on that.

I personally think Twilight should of gone for '09.
I mean This is Twilights FIRST MOVIE and this is Harry Potters SIXTH MOVIE let Twilight do the math 1 movie vs. 6 Harry is more Important than Twilight. |

exactly HP is already a successful series they won't sink now. but they were afraid to bring competition to the new series. twilight wouldn't have done as good as it did if Bond or Potter would have been close enough. therefore the film would have been consider a flop in box and it might have kill the series before it took off. i would have done the same in that position. you don't want HP or JB to loose money either.

exactly mate bond and potter are solid series they are money in the bank for sure. would you like to see your new series against your gold mines. they would have destroyed twilight. you want only one good film to compete for the one weekend. its rare to see two hyped-up films on the same weekend. except on summers.

But thats why Twilight should of gone for '09.
Harry Potter and Bond are ranked A higher Priority Movie for a lot of people. Putting a Chick Flik out there to push the Release date of your Highest Priority Movies is whats making Fans Angry. |

that is the highest priority to you and most of us. but not for the film executives. apparently this series have quite the following. it makes perfect sense from a money making point of view. this move will draw those fans away from bond and potter and focus on twilight. they want the spotlight on this new film. not many films can compete in box with either bond or potter so the move won't affect them. put them anywhere and the fans will see them. but a new film needs the hype and a long weekend if they want to succeed in box. i won't watch twilight because it doesn't appeal to me. the studio has done everything right. they are creating new fans. the angry fans will still go out and watch their films. im sure you will go see your favorite series even if they move them for two years. they are creating the hype. the hype will sell the movie.
