Leveling up Sailing?
How do you do that? I have been sailing and plundering a long time and my level meter is barely up. How do you level up sailing? I want that war frigate lol.

Really good question. I've leveled up cannon, but not sailing yet. Maybe that feature isn't ready yet?

I think it might be tied to using your broadside cannons. Mine crept up a little after that! Ah, so much fun figuring everthing out! It is so cool to be a Beta tester!

From what I have read from others, using your broadside cannons on your Light Galleon or your Light Frigate, will increase your sailing skill.
But they are hardly accurate. And because they are not so accurate, they take a while to lvl up. ![]() Or maybe it's just me who can't aim?

Only the Light Frigate and the Light Galleon have broadside cannons, the Light Sloop doesn't. So to level up your sailing, you have the have the light frigate or the light galleon.

Ok to BEST way to level up is get a crew try to get the max number of crew for the ship and go past Tortuga 'round the back of the island and stay steering the ship while the crew man the cannons and the best ones to level up is the the EITC ships and the Undead/Unsunken ships for the most gold and level ups, also the more the ship moves in battle like going around the enemy ship the more Sailing points you get!
WARNING!!:THE LEVEL 5 SHIPS DON'T LET YOU GO UP THE STAIRS TO THE WHEEL I TRIED IT WITH MY GALLEON AND I WENT THROUGH IN TO THE SHIP IN THE "GREY ZONE OF PIRATES" SO BEST TO STICK WITH THE THE LIGHT SLOOP, LIGHT GALLEON, AND LIGHT FRIGATE. HOPE THIS HELPS!!

I'm with toon on this one. I was in a crew with a friend and I sat at the helm using broadsides as often as I could, and even though they didn't hit I ended up with some fairly high sailing EXP points (higher and quicker than just broadsiding ships). The ships do die quicker if you are using the cannons with your crew, but if you just sit at the wheel, the EXP comes to you.

OK sorry for the stupid questions, but can someone clarify the broadsides? I have the Light Frigate. I usually sail solo. Partly because I like working games alone and partly because I hardly ever see anyone else in game. (I know I can change seas).
Thanks for any help or advice in leveling up sailing...cuz I really wanna!!! |

When sailing press and hold the right mouse button. If you've spent the skill points in them, you'll have icons for "Left Broadsides" and "Right Broadsides" these shoot out straight from either side.
When purchasing ships you can see how many broadside guns each one has. I would get whatever ship has the most you can afford, and go out sinking Navy ships! Find one that doesn't move, shoot one side, spin around, shoot the other. Did I mention the part where they don't even hit half the time? If the ship is lvl10 or above, it can take 15-20 mins to sink this way. This is the ONLY way to raise it, and yes, it is veeeery slow going. Let's hope they tweak this soon! |

I've a level 5 frigate and I've no problem getting to the helm. Perhaps it was fixed?
I did buy a lvl 1 galleon before and couldn't get to the helm to save me bum. Usually what I do is pull up near a ship and fire my broadsides. Then I jump down to my cannons and fire at the masts for a bit till I get notifiied that my broadsides can be used again and run back to the helm and fire. Rinse and repeat. It's alot of back and forth, but I get some really nice exp for both my cannons and sailing. Plus I'm not waiting around for the "cool down" of my broadsides. Stay outa jail! -SH

I tend to solo the sailing too, even though I feel kind of dumb pulling up to a ship, parking, running down to the cannons, firing until they get out of range... running back up to the helm, steering up, parking....
Though the loot is fair if you solo. I always seem to have problems joining a crew. |

Ah, so the way I have been raising my sailing experience is the only way you can! I thought I was doing it wrong, since it takes FOREVER!
I spent about 2 hours yesterday, raising my level from 3 to 4. (The sad thing is that we will all have to start the game all over! I am notriety 11, and cannon 11. Shooting cannons is my favorite! Not so hot with the rest!) I sail alone most of the time, so play the spin the ship game! So, if you see a ship named Shadow Runner spinning around, it is me, Molly O'Hara!
