Building the Perfect Gunner
Let's say you have the opportunity to re-do your canon skills. How would you build your gunner, knowing what you know now? I'm somewhat new to the game myself, but here's my theory so far:
5 Round Shot - Whether we like it or not, the special ammo types run out eventually. Also good for mowing down ships not worth burning thunderbolts on or for long distance work when the probability of hitting a target isn't the highest and you'd rather not waste good ammo. 5 Barrage - +25% damage to all shot types (and even grenades) seems like a great deal to me. 5 Rapid Reload - 30% faster reload translates to more damage over time. Good deal. 5 Thunderbolt 5 Fury The only thing really bugging me about these choices is the lack of the "shoot" skill. I put a few points into shoot with a previous character and liked the effect. The higher rate of fire seemed to translate into increased accuracy, and, because the delay between shots is reduced, a slightly faster reload time. Keeping in mind that each shot resets the reload timer. Doesn't help thunderbolt, though. I may siphon a few points out of other areas to put a few here just for personal preference. Any suggestions, criticisms, or other advice would be appreciated. |

ya, if i were to do it all over again, id do what you posted, execpt id max shoot as well. Id take points away from thunderbolt and fury for it. Well, i might not max shoot, but atleast 3 or 4 into it.

I agree with you 100%. I'm a Lvl 15 gunner. I'm only debating 1 change myself. Explosive or Rapid Reload. I know Explosive is extremely short range but I think it would be very usefull when a ship spawns right on you. I've taken down lvl 40+ ships solo w/ a good captain just using the round shots no problem. (I have 5 in that and 5 Barrage)
From my experience 50% of the time I get a Kamakazi captain that loves to ram right into other ships so I'm leaning towards explosive. |

To be fair, your reasons for the points in round shot don't justify the expenditure. It's filler ammo. Test whether or not you could fill the holds of a galleon with just your 50 Fury's and 50 Thunderbolts. Odds are you can, so why upgrade a shot you are less efficient for using? Trying to help, not criticize, and it's simply something to ponder. Your point spread is very well thought out otherwise.

Hmm I don't agree with much of this, but we all have our own styles don't we
![]() I like shoot and rapid reload. Both make firing faster, and I have them both max'd. I also max round shot. I don't use the other ammo too much, except grape, I have 1 in that. I didn't even unlock firebrand this time. I will use Thunder to tag ships that are way out there, and if a ship is coming too fast, I will use it to take down the sails faster. I like to have that max'd. I'm not a fan of fury. Only have 1 point in it. I debated not even opening it. Probably won't with my next pirate that I make. I didn't unlock barrage with this pirate, only because I do not want grenades to do a lot of damage until I max it. It's hard enough to max grenades as it is. Explosive sounds like a good idea, but I would only use it in an emergency, and you really can't since it takes so long to load. Other thing also, I find it kinda annoying to always have to run to the ammo shop after every run. And if you're filling up a WG, I would think you can run out of ammo. |

a fresh start on it i would agree on everything you have .... except barrage.. i would max shoot instead .. i beleive the damage machanix of the game uses a multiplier between your abily to shoot and the power of your cannons.. i think you get more then 25% from shoot ..
i have explosives now they look really cool .. but not sure if i can handle the cool down... when i am with a good crew i load them on one cannon then fire fury or lightening from a different cannon if a ship respawns i can run to the cannon with explosive already loaded and get a shot off... then back to the other cannon to finish it off .... but at the same time i could have blased it with 15 fury balls, and i am guessing thats a lot more DPS then a single shot of explosives... Explosives, really 3 rounds cost as much as 50 fury,they look cool but i am thinking they are not worth even the single point i put into them i found the only time i really enjoy using them .. is when i dont get to board a ship with my crew.. i can blast my buddies with them ... or .. when that Light sloops following me around to try and jump on my ship .. yeah .. it feels good to hit him with it So my dream Gunner would have 5 shoot 5 round 5 thunderbolt 5 fury 5 reload............ later.... time to test my metal
