Computer Crashing
I think this is in the right forum... but my computer has been crashing like crazy the past couple of days! I thought it was iTunes at first, but I JUST realized it's the computer most of the time now. :O I was typing out this thread post a few minutes ago, and I got the blue screen error thing and then had to restart. I also saw an error report thingy that said your computer has just recovered from a serious error. Please help!!! There's no way I can lose this computer.

What Operating System? When did the issues start? Have you installed/changed anything recently?

Sorry... Fast typing to make sure I didn't lose it to a crash again
![]() I use Windows XP, I had some issues with freezing about a week or so ago... More like two. But that was just with iTunes and I didn't get the blue screen. Yesterday is when I started getting the random computer crashes. The most recent thing I can think of for install is that when I was on live chat about my misunderstood launcher mistake a month ago, the guy got me to install the newest version of my graphics thing. My graphics driver is ATI Radeon x1200 series I think... If that helps. Any ideas? |

Well.....if it worked fine a couple of weeks ago you could do a system restore (all programs - accessories - system tools). This will roll back the settings to whichever date you select on the calendar. Depending on your system settings, you may have a limited amount of restore points to choose from. The video driver could be the culprit ....too soon to tell.
You can also run system file checker to look for and replace any corrupt files. Click start - run and type cmd. Then click ok. This should have opened a command prompt. Type in sfc /scannow and hit enter. This will take at least 20 minutes or more to complete.

I did the scan thing, but when I came back, it had a window that was telling me to insert the Windows XP CD-ROM because files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache. Huh? I don't have a Windows CD o.O?
EDIT: this window is coming up all the time... Oh and I found a checkpoint back to when I installed DirectX 9.0 in the restore thing. Should I try that, then see if anything changes? |

Lovely .....must be a brand name PC....you're lucky if they give you recovery CD'S. Most of them have recovery partitions with the option to burn recovery media.
Cancel out of that. Try the system restore and report back.

FYI... My PC was pretty much home built... We just don't have the cd. Anyway... It's all restored, bummer though that I have to reinstall pirates along with the test version. If anything bad happens, I'll come back to this thread. Thanks, mate!
EDIT: Oh lookie lookie... I don't have to install pirates again. I only had to download the test launcher! :P But it's annoying that I just lost all of my screenshots... I think. EDIT: ooh... apparently I didn't lose my screenies!!! WOOT!!!

You should not have lost any saved files unless they were in the same directory as the program that was installed after the restore point you selected.

Hmm... it has started crashing again! It seems to crash the most when I either just turned it on, or I'm adding music to iTunes/WMP. I CAN think of another thing that has been weird with it for a while... a while ago, I had a few trojans and they caused my automatic updates to turn off... but now it won't turn back on. o.O Could this be affecting my computer? Other than that... any ideas?

You may still have Malware/Spyware in the system. One Antivirus program will never detect everything. Try using SuperAntiSpyware Free and/or Malwarebytes Free. Spybot Search and Destroy is another good option. These are all pretty straight forward to use. Do a full system scan and report your results here.

Try one of the other programs. You never know.....they can always come back. What Antivirus are you running?

I mainly use AVG, but I ran both when the spyware got in and both caught all four viruses. I COULD try again... but I have run a scan with Search & Destroy recently and came up with no threats so...
EDIT: oh... and it only seems to be crashing when I have iTunes or WMP open... @_@ |

Take your computer to a technician. It seems that you have tried a lot of things and nothing seems to work.
