Mafia Returns?
Dear POF Administrators and Moderators of All sizes and colors,
I address you all with nothing more than the utmost respect. My name is The Skirata Clan, maybe you have heard of me. I wish to propose the Return of one of POF's biggest traditions, The Mafia Game. I remember what happened last time. But I believe that The POF Members have learned their lessons. Proof of that was the honesty and Fair Play during the last contests that you guys have so gallantly put together to entertain all of us here at POF. One of the reasons I joined and remained a member of POF for so long was The Mafia Game. I boldly request the return of such a Staple of this wonderful site that I call Home. Sincerely and with the respect that you all deserve, The Skirata Clan. |

Are there any threads of the game available for viewing? Or have they been deleted?

Mafia was so cool and awesome that it got a special Sub-Forum just for it. It comes out only for Mafia and after the game is over it just goes into hiding.

It does look quite fun. I hope the mods will start it up again

I realize that for quite some time there has been hope for the Mafia game to return as a contest here on POF, but I'm afraid to say that there is currently not an outlook for the game to return. I do agree that, at least from my point of view, enough time has passed that I feel we could attempt another shot at the game, but there are other issues to be had.
First off, another GM would need to be trained to run mafia, as we've always allowed for two in the event that the lead GM was not around. At this time I am the only member of the staff left that actively participated in running Mafia, and I am too busy with school and other things to actively moderate and run the Mafia forums and such. Just as well, I had begun a reworking of the rules and what not but have never had time to finish such work for the same reasons. I realize this may come as a disappointment to some, and I do apologize. I enjoyed Mafia just as much as everyone that participated surely did, and I would have loved to see it return later on. At this point though we just don't have the hands or the needs necessary to restart. On a side note for those who asked what Mafia was, if you follow the link that Skirata posted above, you'll find information on the game and how it is played.

Thank you Mr. Ironbones AKA Jack I.
At least there is hope that someday down the road we can enjoy Mafia once more. |

![]() As for those discussing the issue of people to run mafia, in the previous 3 rounds we had 2 moderators running the contest, myself and Garfieldo. I had to be taught how to run the game over the first round and essentially sit back and watch. It is something quite confusing to be taught at first, and I'm lucky to have picked up on it as easy as I did. On top of that, you have to be able to be here for the entire event and keep a close eye on everything. I have always said and still admit that part of the issue with Mafia round 3 was on my behalf. I planned the event and took charge, and issues came up that left me only able to check in every now and again. We're all human, mistakes will be made, but we must learn from them. I've already said there need to be at least 3 GMs this time around just for good measure, and they would all need to be existing POF mods. While the offers are kind, it is easier and overall just more convenient if those running the event are already on the staff. That way, no-one else has to be sought out to moderate, and they'll already have the means necessary to run the Mafia game as it should be run. It all does come down to the cheating issue though. There was just far too much of it in the last contest, and it had to be stopped. As I said, I had started working on a rework of the rules and lost the time to work on them, but if there is that much of an interest in having another round of Mafia I will look into finding some time to work on new rules. That being said I still will not, for my own account and the better of Mafia, return to GM another round. I've run my course and feel that it would be better suited in the hands of a more active group of moderators.

This really sounds like a fun game. I am a bit confused on exactly what happened for there to be a ban on this game. I hope that things can be worked out fairly because it would be a lot of fun to try this game out. Thank you.

There was serious violation on the game rules. Which ended in people being angry at the Mods and Mods being angry at the people. It was a BIG mess that we all have left behind. There was no winners, only everyone lost. We all got a participation award at the end.

Err... I know I have never done this, but would it be possible to have someone other than a POF staff member run it? I mean, there are plenty of people here who know how it worked, such as our dear Skirata here, and I'm sure there are people that would be more than willing to help out in it. Even if we didn't get the award for it, I'm sure there are people that could organize it. Although if a POF staff member must run it, then I understand, but I'm just throwing this out there.

We might consider it if a set of rules could be created to prevent the amount of cheating and rule breaking that was going on before. I think we can all agree that we want a fun and fair game. Not let's see how creative we can be to cheat, game.
