Catching a Legendary Fish
I was blessed by Speedy Lou's presence today. But everything happened so fast I had no clue what I was supposed to do. I clicked super fast, then rotated my mouse in a circle... then it told me click on the handle... HUH??? Do I need to click my heels together 3 times too? I know some of you have caught these beasts. Please tell me how. So next time this thing pops up I may have an idea what Im doing. It all happens so fast.
I also was wondering if it is different per Legendary fish. Or do you jump thru the same hoops each time? Help is greatly appreciated! Thank you |

The clicking on the handle is the hardest for me. You just need to catch it once to stop the fish from running away. I am going to say that it is the same for each fish, but not necessarily the same order. I have caught Speedy lou, struggle and reel a bunch with one catch the handle, and I've lost to Glittering Girl twice. I had a few catch the handles with her. Just keep at it mate and you'll get them eventually.

The sequences for all 5 legendary fish remain the same, just their difficulty changes, and they come at different times. I myself have caught Fogbell (and just a side note, the big ole guy isn't as mean as you think he is. He even gave me his jersey!) (I've also crashed before I was able to crash Lou and Glitter Girl >_<)
The first of them you mentioned is when the fish is trying to escape, and you need to struggle against them. The method I usual use is holding down my mouse, and then unleashing an unholy hail storm of finger clicks straight downward, instead of the regular way of holding it. It allows me to grow crazy without my house flying across the room, basically. Next, is the reeling in. After the fish gives up fighting (for the moment) you need to pull them in by circling the center of the fishing rod on your screen, following the direction of the given arroow. I don't really use a method here, I just spin. However, be sure that you don't let your motions get a little off balanced, because if your mouse goes off to the side of the screen, or even off by a little, for that matter, it'll set you back a few paces. And of course, the one you had problems with, the catching of the rod. When you get to this phase, an image of the fishing rod will pop up, with it's handle spinning. Well, see that little knob on the end of the spinning handle? You need too click on that in order to stop it. Just stay calm, and keep a tune to it's path. Once you can understand fully where it goes and at what speed, intercept its path and do a nice, quick click on the knob when it passes under your mouse and lights up. |

I too have had issues with catching the rod, mainly because it wouldn't appear (I had caught a legendary in the exact same spot one lure before, then another came when this happened - happened twice).
However when it works correctly, I try to place my mouse in the center of the screen, then just keep clicking until it comes around. It's always in the same area, so good luck. |

Is there a preferred method to begin the legendary fish experience? Amount of time of lure in water? Does it matter how many other fish you have caught? Location on the screen?
I caught one, but I cannot catch another, regardless of boat location or pier chosen. Any ideas? |

Boat location and the section you use don't matter. Just keep the lure moving around in the bottom right area for as long as possible.
Only reason I say location doesn't matter, one story said the fish would be by Tortuga, yet it is anywhere. And on top of that, every time you enter and exit a location, the fishes are slightly different. |

I have tried again several times over the procedure you have mentioned, but have not seen any legendary fish.
If you were to try for a LF, how many casts does it take to appear? |

It's random. Sometimes the first try, sometimes after 5 or so.

Can you estimate how much residence time at the bottom right you need for each cast?

Cast out as far as you can, let the lure sink all the way to the bottom, below the sharks. If you casted well, the sharks will not be able to get to the lure. The number meter needs to be 80+ otherwise it is very unlikely you will catch a legendary fish. Good luck.

Case and point, keep the lure in the bottom right as long as possible. The longer, the better.
First, as Andrew said, set out your line as far as possible. If done correctly, by the time your lure hits the water, you should see past the end of the ocean. As soon as it hits the water, use Sink Lure. This allows your lure to sink straight down, instead of drifting over to the left while it sinks. Once you hit the bottom, repeatedly use Stall and Sink Lure to pause your lure in its place. If you get lucky, Mr. LF will come

I've had some success catching legendary fishes and I agree with the posters here on how it's done. Pretty silly mini game if you ask me, but it is something different I guess... it beats manning shore batteries looking for and sinking pirate ships. I hope there is something more rewarding about all of it than just filling all the little treasure slots a la the rhinestone rings...

Thank you everyone for the advice and replies on this! I have seen a few of the LF, but still have yet to catch one. the spinning rod always gets me. By the time I get my mouse in position the LF is gone. It is so fast. I used the same technique you guys are talking about. I let my lure go all the way to the bottom and I let sit for a min or so, then bring it up and catch a fish on the way to re cast. Some times it takes forever for a LF to show up, sometimes not. Im almost thinking they are showing up at a higher percentage right now just for testing purposes. Imagine if the percentage gets lowered by 50%!!! (Or more for that matter) Remember when drop items came out and the rate of those? I have a feeling the LF are gonna be harder to find later on.

to make matters more interesting, if you are fishing while the boat you are on is moved, there are no changes to the fish you are working below.
In other words, if you begin to fish off another persons boat, Use ocean view to inspect the fish below the other person moves that boat while you are fishing, use ocean view to inspect the fish below the views are the same. Comments? |
