Pirates of the caribbean, good game, but one thing ruing it all!
hey everyone,Pirates of the caribbean(single player ^_^) is my favourite game, really love it so much(I know there are few games of about same name, but I mean the one where you start at Oxbay hehe)So I tought to give Pirates of the caribbean online a try,and I can say I love it really much! But there's one problem ruining it all. My pc:nvidia 7600 GS,1gb of RAM,amd athlon 3000+ Isnt nothing special, but I suppose its at least able to run the game at medium with around 25 fps? But what do I get?I get sudden fps downs quite often, not so much on the land, but mostly on the sea,and ALWAYS when Im on someone elses ship and/or boarding the other ship. Could anyone please give any suggestion?:/ I really like this game and I wouldnt like not to play it because of this. I've played World of Warcraft wich requires stronger pc without any problems at all,so Im quite confused why Im having problems with this game, wich is,by the way, alot better than WoW =D |

The game engine seems to not be as efficient as some of the other games, such as the other reference you mentioned. Major sea battles, animations due tend to lag even the best systems. Might try turning down graphics detail even though your hardware may normally be able handle optimum settings with other games. Internet connection could also play a role here. If your using wireless.. dont. ![]() Zep |

Hello Timm,
I had same issue you're having. Try to do as Zepper states above by turning down graphics settings. Also, since you have NVIDIA, anywhere on your desktop of your computer, right click and select "NVIDIA" and open the NVIDIA Center...click on "3D settings" there are 3 options there. Try each of them and see which one is best for you. I tried all three of them, and the one that worked best for me is "Manual Settings: quality <--> performance" make sure is in the middle (50/50). But like I said, select the one that works better for you, following what Zepper stated above. Good luck. |

Thanks for your reply, going to try what you said now, btw, unfortunately I tried butting all settings to lowest possible, lowest resolution aswell, but performance is almost the same :O
This is me last hope I suppose =D Oh damn =/ This isn't working aswell, tried to put all 3 options, but none of it works

First try what Zep and Ghostcannon said.
It would help to know more about your system. XP needs at least 1 gig of memory. Vista needs at least 2. If your graphics card uses shared memory (system) add a gig of memory in both cases. I just upgraded a 128mb Nvidia 8300GS with a 512mb 9400GT. The 8300 was very playable at low and medium settings and the 9400 does well at the highest settings but in both cases there is lag whenever there are a lot of other players on the screen and when there are a lot of special affects. These are both "budget" video cards but, as Zep said, I don't think even a very high end card would eliminate all the lag, because there is a good deal of lag having to do with the servers or something else on Disney's end. |

I didn't see it directly stated anywhere here, but I would recommend first thing to do is check for latest updates to the video card.
Somewhere here on this site is a path. |

First of all, comparing Pirates Online to a game that is not only 3 years older, but has more of everything going in to it, is not a viable comparison. WoW was made for PC's that hold nothing to today's PC's. Also key things to remember, the games are made by completely separate entity's with completely different coding.
You may be able to run WoW, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can run every other game on the market perfectly fine based on that alone. Your issue can be a number of things. I would have to suggest making sure that all drivers are up to date, no networking issues or high traffic in your network like downloading while trying to play. Also, you may want to go to a quieter server for better results. |

A lot of the lagging is not actually so much a problem with your PC in itself but an averaging of all the data between all the PC's in a particular location.
My current PC is an aging Gaming Rig I built about 4 years ago and even though it is 4 years old it is quite fast even by todays standards. I run Dual 7800 GTX video cards in SLI mode 2 gigs of DDR2 ram and 3.0 Ghz dual CPU. Playing the game on max settings and max resolution is not an issue (can play FEAR and DOOM 3 at max settings as well as Crysis) However even though I have a relatively fast PC when it comes to privateering all means absolutely nothing. nada I get lagging just as much as everyone else but there are ways to speed things up. Turn down your video settings. even though my machine can handle the game flawlessly at max settings the lower the settings the less information is SHARED online through the network .....the less information the faster you can play. also if you plan on crewing with other players be advised that on any crew the whole ship will respond as quickly as the slowest PC onboard. Simply stated you can have a single crew member pop onboard when you have had zero problems and then all of a sudden your playing in slow motion and the ship is suffering from major lagging. Why? the new crew member has a very very slow PC and it is causing everyone around to lag as well. This is not a guess but something that has been verified time and time again. |

Not sure what "OS" your running, Windows 98/ME/XP/Vista? Upgrading memory wouldnt hurt, 1GB is still a bit shy for todays computing world (2gbs is somewhat the standard now). The game requirements reflect less, but they dont tell you the game is going to work perfect with just those requirements, only that it will work. ![]() Hope you can resolve the issues, and yes, its still a fun game. We usually just learn to avoid the areas that cause us problems when necessary. |
