Reputation System Updated
The reputation system has been updated. Now, the better non-combo skills give better reputation than lower non-combo skills. For example, with your Dagger, the Throw Dirt skill adds more reputation to that enemy's total than throwing Adder.

I thought that was always the case. I've been using throw dirt as much as I can. Same with curse and stuff like that.

Ah, thought that was new.
The only one I don't like to use is Bladestorm - too much damage! Sidewinder and throw dirt for my dagger are really good - they got me from Lv 12 up to Lv 14 on my Dagger a couple days ago. Took me about 2 hours on Padres Beach.

Well I'm pretty sure this is just another. Hey this is one of the game tricks to leveling faster. Prolly to make the game less intimidating to new people. Until recently if you didn't know about PoF you don't know anything about the game. I think that was the major aim of this news update. As I havn't noticed a change in rep because I have always used those skills to level. I think they just wern't as clear and should have just said. Lower dmg skills with effect increase through points instead of dmg. Gives more rep in the end because you hit more often from using the low dmg skills. IE. Don't raise your cutlass slash skill untill your done. Slashing, bashing, and taunting will yield 110 max from each mob if it is in level range.

I don't think it's the position of the non combo skill that determines the amount of reputation gained, but the damage that skill does. Your example (adder/throw dirt) is correct though, only I believe it's because throw dirt does 1 dmg while adder is in the 30-60 range. I haven't tested this, nor have I pondered how to do so, but it's my theory.
I did recently test passive damage skills to see if I would lose reputation for doing more damage (i'm a gambler) with that particular weapon and it turned out that I didn't (for my staff or cutlass, didn't check barrage+nades). The staff had spot on xp across the board, XX level yellows gave equal reputation regardless of damage. The cutlass on the other hand had variance even before my passive damage was applied. After the test it ended up being roughly 2 rep per mob less than with no passive damage. If i wasn't limited by my skill and notoriety levels i would have ran a more extensive test and I'm sure it would have balanced out. Anyhow, I'm not exactly sure why everyone is so obsessed with 1point skilling up for big rep/kill anyhow. It's like most of you completely take the time/kill from the equation. I've skilled up using 5 point skills and I'm doing very well. I tried the whole 1-2 redundancy method that seems to be preached about but it was far to mind seducing for me, not to mention I thought the reputation was actually slower. Shifty~ P.S. Someone come to Savica Ocean, Padres beach and crew me for a notoriety bonus, my rep donkey just logged out! P.S.S. Just ran a 100 kill test on barrage and nades and they seem to have reduced my xp per kill by about 4! Passive damage may reduce rep after all. Yeah.. I tested this with pistol. Hence why my pistol is low.. Standing on rum runners with yellow dire wasps some time back I spent 2 skill points on basic shoot. My rep droped instantly from 80 per wasp, to 30 per wasp.
In contrast Sailing and cannons don't seam to be effected (as much*) if you feel the need to spend points to keep up with the ships that give rep. All of your weapons should be treated like spending is a sin though. Huge loss in rep from spending points. However there are a few cases worth spending points on. Mostly just unlocks like throw dirt, and others stated. I didn't test with any accuracy. Though I didn't notice a dramatic change after spending doll, staff, sword points on skills relating to voodoo pool, casting speed, and health. have many points in those and still get good rep rates with each weapon. In the end its clear that somethings harm you, and somethings benifit you. Though it seams to be a extream shift to the harm side. Check with friends. Leave a pm to me or someone else in the know on skills. a handfull of BTTB have 40's and will tell you they wish they had known this. Most of them are moving their second pirate much faster. I was lucky to learn early but still a lil late. I know one insane pirate on lil Ms 3rd pirate. *wink* over half way. lol Feel like such a slacker =) Anyways. I wish they would pretty much just release a guide telling people how their odd system works. Its the only mmo where spending points slows you down =(

I think its sort of how they did xp in Toontown. In there, you get x pts of xp for the level of gag you hit a cog with. It worked well there, but not here.
I can see this most when I use grenades. I had put 4 pts in explosive grenades. I can't get past single digit xp for most creatures it does so much damage. I got the smoke grenades that do much better however I can only hold 25 of those at a time. That's a lot of visits to Powder Burnt Pete. |

I use Long Volley with Explosive (4 dots on each), do 1k damage, and get around 15 rep per Undead Raider I beat, 10 for Officers and Mercenaries.

Haya,
Ok you guys can do the math. This happened before crabs were fixxed on driftwood. Pull 3 lvl 23's all red Use poke -1 dot- 35 times Switch to individual targets Use dagger basic attack -1 dot- 100 times Use hack -1 dot- 100 times Shoot till dead aprox 10-15 times Aprox 250 rep per mob Always I dont belive it was accually great rep when you think that it prob took 3-4 mins to kill each mob not includeing the the pulling and respawn time. So about 60 rep per minute 3600 rep per hour. Might sound like alot but no loot and only rep. Just a couple more notes If I hit a yellow mob 100 times with my dagger then shoot it 5 times to kill it I woulg get 105 rep. If I used 30 Pokes on a yellow mob and killed it with that I got 80 rep There both still 1 dot skills Jaco Lan'Heue THE SHOWOFFS |
