Pirates Crashed My Computer?
I just reinstalled Pirates, and it's been crashing my whole computer when I play. I used to have a specific vista launcher that worked perfectly because I always had this problem in the past but I cannot find that download link. Does anyone have the link or another workaround to this problem? Thank you

There is only one launcher available. What do you have the graphics set for? Do you have the latest drivers for your video card? Any other problems outside of POTC on the computer?

Graphics are low, not sure where to find the graphic card info, could you help? And no problems outside POTCO.

Did you have any issues like this when you previously played? I'd start off be uninstalling POTC and then reinstalling. Make sure you remove any files left over in the Disney POTC folder (under program files).

Yeah it did this to me before, like a year and a half ago? And I searched something like "pirates online vista installer" and i found a post on here that linked to a launcher that was supposed to fix vista problems, and it worked. but i'll try uninstalling.
Edit; Uninstalling and Reinstalling did nothing. Still same problems. Updated video card, still problems. This is irritating, I just payed for membership after all. :/ edit 2; found this in my logs, unsure what it means though.. :10-30-2011 21:28:11 :display(error): The application requested harware acceleration, but your OpenGL :10-30-2011 21:28:11 :display(error): driver, GDI Generic, only supports software rendering. :10-30-2011 21:28:11 :display(error): You need to install a hardware-accelerated OpenGL driver, or, :10-30-2011 21:28:11 :display(error): if you actually *want* to use a software renderer, then :10-30-2011 21:28:11 :display(error): alter the hardware/software configuration in your Config.prc file. Sounds more like a graphics problem to me, have you tried switching the graphic options when you start up the launcher?
When you start the launcher, go to graphic options at the bottom of the launcher. I'm guessing you have Open GL marked. Try switching the graphic options from Open GL to Direct X and let me know if it changes anything. |

Still crashing...this time, when i booted my computer up again, it crashed again before i even got to the desktop. pirates seems to trigger the crash at first but then it continues to crash, and then its all right until i try to play pirates again.

Not sure so sure, has it ever worked before without the vista launcher?

It could be a virus of some sort and it just looked like pirates was causing the crashes. If you can, put the hard drive in another computer and run something like AVG or adaware on that drive. Hope this helps.

I don't think it worked without the launcher I downloaded that was supposed to be for vista or whatever. I absolutely cannot find it anywhere so I don't understand...and I'll run some virus scans and stuff and see what I can do.

Catherine, I just thought of something. Your CPU could be over heating.... how long did the computer stay on before a crash normally?

Sounds like infected Windows files to me.

It would be easier if we could physically check the hardware and probably find a solution faster. But alas, this is the internet. |
