Ship Timer/Kraken Myth - Busted - Pirates of the Caribbean Online Fansite & Forums

I gathered a huge crew (overloaded my ship - people couldn't row out anymore and had to TP to me) and set shifts for them to wait on the ship while others did other things. We all returned to the ship with 5 minutes left, recrewed, stocked ammo, and grabbed cannons. When the ship timer went to 0... (big surprise effect)...

Duh duh duh duh....

(trumpet sound)

Nothing! My ship just sunk and no Kraken appeared. So before you go and gather a massive crew and spend an hour on your ship, remember this post. I sent a bug report to PotCO about the problem (on Test server there was a Kraken) so I'll update the thread if they say they change this procedure. Otherwise, there you go!

Now I can no longer be called a landlubber.

Wow, thats a real disappointment. The Kracken is a really cool part of the POTC story and definitely needs to be added to live.

Ok, I sent in a bug report about the kracken not showing up. Here is what I said:

"In the pre-launch beta there was a Kracken thatattacked your ship after the 1-hour sailing timer expired, but the Kracken is not appearing on live. Is this a bug or has it been held up for some reason?"

And here is the reply I recieved:

"Your best source of official game play tips and tricks is the Players' Guide located on PiratesOnline.com . If your specific question is not addressed in the Player's Guide, it may be something we intend for you to discover as part of your experience in the Caribbean. After all, one of the greatest things about being a Pirate is all the adventure and excitement!"

Unfortunately that generic pre-written response doesnt answer the question at all.

I found when writing Disney (with TT) and you get a reply like that? Just write back asking why they answered everything BUT your question. I had a running email conversation with them for about a week and I was not very polite. I did however get my question answered

(and had a little fun doing it.....I probably have a little red flag by my name though :P)

You can be polite while being firm. Everitt, you should reply to their message and say this:

I am sorry, but that automated response does not answer my question. I will not stop replying until my question is answered.

wow this is interesting info i really didn't know the kraken was even in the game although i saw it in the game trailer i figured it would be added later. i was told the timer was how long other crew members had to board, but i hope they bring the kraken back that would be awesome i wonder if it's still active on the test server?

I'm fairly sure that the Kraken was NEVER on the Test server during Beta.

Maybe the rumor got started because there's a Virtual Magic Kingdom "Pirates" game where a Kraken shows up if you sit idle for too long? At least I seem to remember that.

I spoke with a CSR in live chat about this yesterday and he said that while he hasnt tested it himself on live that the Kracken should appear after your timer expired, and he told me to put in a bug report about it.

It was there; I got sunk once. But that happens in VMK, too.

I am going to log on now and launch my ship and just sit there for an hour afk playing Madden on my Wii. Then I will just fight the beast myself! Hopefully they reinstated the kraken and I'm not just wasting 89 gold on ship repairs.

As a new player, I had no idea what the timer was for. Where is that explained ? Is it mentioned anywhere in-game ?

I started playing the beta only a day before the game went live (and have been playing ever since

but when I read in the FAQ it said the timer was just a limit on how long you could spend at sea. I never thought much about it at the time (wouldn't you always fill up your cargo hold, or die, before an hour passed?) but I can't explain why it's an hour.

So if the Kraken showed up in the beta, sounds cool and everything, but I guess that's just how the game enforces the time limit. Too bad it doesn't anymore I suppose.

BTW, could you fight the Kraken in the beta? Is that why you loaded up on crew members?

The kraken looked so cool in a screenshot I saw. Hopefully when it is added it isn't just a matter of hack and slash.
