July 6, 2007 update!
July 6, 2007
As many of you know we have been in Phase 1 of Beta testing for a few months, and have received some great feedback and data to assist us as we continue the process of developing Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Our end goal is simple - make a great game! In order to achieve this we believe we need some additional development time and have therefore decided to move the launch of the game to this Fall. This gives us some extra time to further enhance the game, respond to additional data we've collected during Beta testing and incorporate more of the input we have received from our players. In the meantime, we have some exciting things coming your way, including a brand new website, community contests, more updates from the development team and tons of updated game assets. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End has been making quite a buzz! Check out some of the reviews below: Chicago Tribune Atlanta Journal-Constitution Chicago Sun-Times Movie Web Hollywood.com Visit the film's official Web site for behind the scenes videos, exclusive downloads, movie locations, and show times! Video Insider Click here to check out exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" movie premiere! Brand-New Icons, Backgrounds, and More Check out a host of brand new assets, including new screenshots, icons, and wallpapers! Enjoy! Playing Games … Pirate Style! Have some time to kill between battles? Looking for some extra booty? Then jump into an exciting game of poker or blackjack! But be sure to keep your wits about you — trickery and cheating are never far away when pirates are involved! Quick Fact: The dealers in all parlor games are NPCs, non-player characters. Pirates can't be trusted to deal on their own, can they? Poker: The goal? Win the pot (all the gold bet by you and by other players). A pirate doesn't necessarily have to have the best hand (combination of cards) to win — they just have to convince everybody else that they have the best hand. A skilled player soon learns when to go for an actual win, when to bluff, and when it's time to fold. While there are several games within poker, there is only one set of poker hands. In most cases, if two players have the same kind of hand, the ranking (numerical value) of the cards will determine the winner. Royal Flush: an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, all in the same suit Straight Flush: any five cards of the same suit in sequence (example: Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, all in Spades) Four of a kind: four cards of the same rank (example: four Kings). The fifth card doesnt matter. Full House: three cards of one rank with two cards of another rank (example: three Tens, two Jacks). Flush: any five cards of the same suit (example: Two, Five, Eight, Jack and Ace of Hearts). Straight: five cards in sequence but in any suit (example: Two of Hearts, Three of Spades, Four of Clubs, Five of Hearts, Six of Spades). Three of a Kind: three cards of the same rank (example: three Sixes). The other two cards don't matter. Two Pair: two pairs of any two cards of equal rank (example: two Nines and two Kings). The fifth card doesn't matter unless another player also has, for example two Nines and Kings—then the rank of the remaining card determines the winner. Pair: two cards of equal rank (example: two Nines). If another player has two Nines, the highest of the three remaining cards determines the winner. High Card: If no combination can be made, the player with the highest ranking card in hand wins. Tortuga Hold 'Em: This form of poker uses seven cards. The dealer begins by giving each pirate two cards face down. Only each pirate sees their two face-down cards until the showdown. Next comes the first round of betting, beginning with the pirate to the dealer's left, and going clockwise from there. Betting continues until all bets are matched. Pirates may fold (quit) at any time. Dealer then gives each pirate three cards face up, followed by another round of betting. The dealer then deals the last card face up, followed by a fourth round of betting. Pirates then make the best five-card hand they can out of their seven cards. They may use their face-down cards or not, depending if they need them. The best hand wins the pot. If all but one pirate folds, that pirate gets the pot. If two pirates have the same hand, they split the pot. Seven-Card Stud: The dealer starts by giving each pirate two cards face down and one card face up. The first round of betting begins with the pirate with the highest ranking face-up card. If two or more pirates have the same ranking card (example: all Eights), then the suit determines the high card. Suits rank as follows: Spades (highest), Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds (lowest). The dealer then gives each player a fourth card face up. The second round of betting begins with the pirate whose two face-up cards form the best hand (example: two Threes beats a Five and a King). The dealer then gives each pirate a fifth and sixth card face up, with a round of betting after each, beginning with the pirate whose face-up cards show the best poker hand. The dealer then gives each pirate their last card facing down, and the last round of betting is begun by the pirate whose face-up cards show the best poker hand. The winner is the pirate who can make the best five-card hand out of their seven cards. Blackjack: Easy as pie, this game is. Your aim is to collect enough cards to equal 21 points, or as close to 21 points as you can get without going over. If you go over 21, you lose. Here's how to count them: Ace = 1 point or 11, whichever you need most 2-9 = card number value 10, Jack, Queen, King = 10 Quick Fact: Suits don’t matter. All that matters is the cards’ number value. Crewin' Up in the Caribbean! The waters of the Caribbean can be a dangerous place — especially for those pirates who choose to sail alone. For those who want to up their odds of coming back, there are two ways to sail the seas — as a Captain of your own vessel with your own crew, or as a member of another Captain's crew. If you’re not ready to captain your own vessel yet, or if you don't want to gather a crew, you can sign on to someone else’s ship. Just make sure that ship is going in the direction you want to go and that the Captain is strong and stout. After all, it's your hide that's on the line. Becoming a Captain Blimey, all you need is your own ship! But keep in mind that a Captain has responsibilities. Know how to handle your vessel. Make sure she’s the right kind of ship for the job at hand. And it's a smart sailor who crews aboard other ships first in order to learn how to command pirates in battle. Captaining Skills There's nothing pirates love more than the feel of a ship beneath their feet. And when you command your own vessel at sea, you have access to special commands that allow you to enjoy and profit from the experience all the more. These commands allow you to control your crew and coordinate battles. Quick Fact: Only the Captain can fire a ship’s below-decks cannons. Crew members control a single deck cannon apiece. Captaining Skills Broadside Left: Fire left broadside. Upgrade to increase Left Broadside Cannonball damage! Broadside Right: Fire right broadside. Upgrade to increase Right Broadside Cannonball damage! Full Sail: Coaxes a short burst of speed out of the ship! Come About: Allows your ship to make a hard sudden turn! Open Fire: Increase crew's cannon damage! Ramming Speed: Bear down upon an enemy vessel and ram it into splinters! Take Cover: Create a shield that protects your ship and crew from incoming fire! Windcatcher: Create a shield that protects your ship and crew from incoming fire! Tacking: Superior knowledge of the rigging allows you to turn more rapidly. Improves ship turning radius! Treasure Sense: Your endeavors always seem to uncover more gold. Increases the quality of cargo drops! Taskmaster: A harsh taskmaster can get his crew to reload his cannons faster. Decreases recharge time for Broadsides! Assembling a Crew There are several ways to find crew members. Check at the docks — there’s usually plenty of scallywags looking for passage. You can also ask your friends and past crew if they want to crew for you by using chat or by simply inviting them to crew up using their Pirate Detail Panel. And don’t forget the Lookout System. Put out the word, and if there are pirates who are itching to go to sea, the Lookout will find them for you. Game Tip: Each crew member you sign up will have their own unique cannon skill level and ammo availability. Check their Pirate Detail Panel for more information.

This is why I can't have nice things! As soon as I get a new computer with no lag
while playing pirates and my pink pistol, I can't play for two months. Well, this is all for the best anyways.
