Slash -> Flourish
Alright, knowing as I can, that I could skip Cleave in the sword combo to go straight into Flourish if it was so unlocked, I put a point into it. Now it seems that if you skip a legitimate part of the combo, you start back over. So now I'm doing a two hit combo, then starting back over with a three hit combo.
Will I actually have to supplant a point into Cleave to get the most out of Flourish? I was hoping to put 4 points in Flourish for this certain pirate, though it may have to become 3. |

No, you can skip Cleave completely. I did on both my pirates, and I do Hack -> Slash -> Flourish combos. I'd advise skipping that last skill, too. (Thrust?)
You just have to get the timing right. |

Any suggestions on how to get these to work in a battle situation?
Training on the dummies I can pull off all of the combos, but when faced with an enemy I look like a button masher even if I try to replicate the timing used on the dummies.

Do you use the mouse or the CTRL key?
I use the CTRL key. Seems to give better control (heh heh heh). And it's easier on your hand. |

The CTRL key.
It just baffles me that I have control when I am at the training dummies, but when I go for an enemy nine times out of ten none of the advanced moves come out even if I'm true to the timing. That and when they do I always get a "miss" with the cleave. ![]() I only use my mouse for aiming cannon and grenades. LOL! |

No no no, you got me wrong Bilge. The combo starts over, not the actual endeavor. I do hack, then slash, then flourish, but it comes out to be two seperate combos: a 2 hit, and a 3 hit one. I wanted to be able to do a quick 5 hit combo I guess.
For the sword, you generally press control at the end of the move, or about a second after the move starts. You can time it without looking, but you may miss the fact that your enemy is long dead. |

Weird. Mine always get the 5 hit.

FYI: It is impossible to mis-time your combos on a dummy or swinging at the air. You can always train on the Monkey inside the Devils Anvil.

I agree. I skipped it.

I take it back. It does the same thing for me, too.
I get a 2-hit combo from the hack/slash, then a 3-hit combo from the flourish. I did the same thing with dagger - skipped gouge and went straight to eviscerate. It does the same thing. The combo starts over again at eviscerate. I get a 3-hit combo from cut/swipe, and another 3-hit combo from eviscerate. I think this is an actual bug. |

Or maybe it's there to encourage getting all the skills. I'll save an extra point in case I need it for Cleave.

No, it's a bug. I sent in a bug report on it.

I have all the cutlass combos I think.. But I just go slow and steady, don't get excited and worry about what might happen, just go slow and steady.. My sister in law was visiting and playing on her character and my four year old walks up and to her and says no no no, go slow and steady. Yeah, I let him practice with the sword.. Good Parenting..
