My computer is dead!
I woke up this morning, got up and came to turn on my computer to get on POF and all the guild sites I'm on. So I click the little "On" button, and it takes me to the select a user page and.... DEAD. Yeah, so my computer just died this morning. Its sitting right next to me in a laptop coma. Someone in my family had the same issue, and their laptop didn't survive, so its looking like I'm gonna be ditching my old poop of a laptop and getting a new one. RIP old dirty green slow laptop. Good news and bad news.
Good news: I can get a new computer! About time. You've all heard me whining about how my computer stinks and how it can't do anything and how I can't download good MMO's and the like. Well, I'm looking into getting a really nice Alienware laptop (They run amazingly well but an 11-incher can weigh 7 pounds!). So hopefully I'll be able to play without ANY lag or slowness... Abassa Smasho can be a walk in the park :P W00T! Bad news: I have no idea when I'll be able to order the laptop or when I'll actually receive it. It could take a while, so don't expect me to be on too much. I can easily get on POF from some phones in my house every once in a while or just use someone's computer, but getting on POTCO may be a bit tough. It is downloaded with the launcher on all computers, so I should be able to get on every once in a while, but it shouldn't be more than once or twice a day, and not for too long. Anyway, don't expect to see me as much as before until I get my new laptop, so I suppose just take care of yourselves for a while, and consider the word of the Seniors and Co-GM's the word of the guildmaster until I'm back. See you all (hopefully) soon! |

Well, Lag isn't just because of a slow computer. Remember my Alienware? Yeah. Can't walk through Abassa. Why? Bad Internet. SO, if you have bad Internet, then you will most likely still have lag. Not as bad though.
Anywho, hurry up and order it! >:O Alienware took two weeks to get my computer to me, so the sooner the better. However, you might have better luck, since mine is a 30lb desktop. Mine is much older, but to tell you something about Alienware's performance, it can still hold up to the modern day computers. I've actually gotten PMs back in my CSS days about how many Ghz my comp was, that theirs was 3.0. I told them "2.6". They laughed at me, but I had no lag. :P Anywho, we hope for you to get back soon! |

My condolences go out to your laptop, I know what it's like to have a close processor shut off. Alas, in my lifetime I've probably destroyed about 7 computers trying to overwork them, in fact the one I'm using right now is years old and possibly approaching the end of it's life.
The truth is, computers hate me. They really do. Whether it's the latest AI that I just created or a Windows 95 endurance test, they truly, honestly hate me. I'm afraid they think I'm the master drive and they're the slave drive, but in truth, none of us would be complete without the other. I've tried talking to my computer about resolving some of these issues, but its variety system has yet to reach a point in which it can fully cooperate with me. And for some reason, I'm afraid this is my fault. I mean if you try telling someone that Skippy treats computers well, and they'll most likely believe you. But it's different, the computers don't understand what I do, what I've done for them. And that... that means everything. So what do I do? I destroy them. That's right, complete obliteration. No computer that believes it can stand up to me deserves to have it's processor in it's place, disks to contemplate, or programs to benefit. Your computer may feel the same way towards you, and if you want my advice, threaten it until it bows to your every whim. ~Skippy Last edited by Mr. Skiperdoo; 07-10-2011 at 06:52 PM.. |

Alienware makes a nice unit with high performance components. Before you go buying that new unit (which you want one way or another...lol). Make sure the current laptop doesn't have something simple causing the current failure (dead power supply, memory chip bad or needs re-seated, over heating due to clogged cpu exhaust port). If it's the motherboard....as you probably know, it's not worth fixing anymore. Replacement units have dropped in price dramatically over the past few years. Good luck.

Anyway, I was just out looking at some laptops today. The place I went to didn't really have any good gaming laptops (other than this one gargantuan Asus... might as well shove a desktop into my laptop bag.), but I did look at a nice Samsung that had some good stuff. I think it was a Quad-Core, a good i5 processor, 6 GB memory (so it would be great for running lots of things at once), and nice graphics. I'm gonna look at some other ones (especially some real gaming laptops) before I make my decision... but I'd say its gonna be a good two weeks AT LEAST before I actually get my laptop in my possession. Anyway, I'll try my best to be active. Wish me luck! |

So here's the deal with my laptop guys... it seems to have let me on again, not crashing. I haven't tried POTCO, so I have yet to see what that'll be like. It will likely work but may lag a bit, and I think my computer is on the last few weeks of life. I'm still shopping for a new laptop, as I know this guy's almost dead, but I suppose I'll be active again. Pretty weird. Like my computer had a heart attack but survived, only scarred... :P

My computer died AGAIN. Posting from another computer, obviously. I'm going to give it a few hours before I try to reboot it, and hopefully it can work. Good news is that I'm sort of deciding between two laptops now. Both are just about equally powerful. One is a Dell XPS, the other is an Alienware M14x. They really are both about the same... except I like the look of the Alienware better (iz purteh). I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations between the two? Again, both are pretty similar in power. The only significant difference was that the XPS had 8 GB memory vs. the Alienware with 4 GB. Not sure how much my computer has/had, but I'd say no more than 2 GB on it. Either way, I probably won't end up using that much memory for what I'll play. Not like I'll run three games at once, browse the Internet, and be having xfire and all that up at the same time. :P
Suggestions? |

Alienware makes a pretty nice unit for the price. I've also had good luck with the XPS series from Dell. Do some Google searches on the models you are interested in for current reviews. Either way you go just be sure to have a rocking video card....CPU and plenty of RAM for POTC.
