Better Tutorial

Ok, so with recent updates (well, not too recent, several months ago) POTCO has shortened the Tutorial significantly. First, you had to get your sea chest on Rambleshack, then get your sword from will. Then learn to use it, and fight some gravediggers. Then you get your compass. Then, do the whole quest about getting your ship. Now, you make your pirate, get your sword, get the compass, get your ship, boom your done. Because of this, I think that there are too many pirates coming into the game not knowing what to do. Here is how I think the tutorial should go.

1) Create a pirate.
2) The old cut-scene where you would get your sea chest.
3) Meeting Bo-Beck and learning to cannoneer.
4) Get your sword from Will Turner on Port Royal
5) Learn to use your sword (Mandatory for a player's first pirate.
6) Kill the gravediggers, and get your compass.
7) Little quest involving going to Elizabeth and getting your ship.
8) Sailing to Devil's Anvil and getting your pistol
9) Going to Tortuga, finishing last part of tutorial and starting the story chapter.
10) Better chat tutorial!!! The chat tutorial they have I find pathetic. All it says is: type here to chat. Basically. They should teach you all the features of chat. Difference between local chat, crew, guild, and privateer. And teach you about emotes. There are too many players running around that are mute.

Also, add a small tutorial teaching you about how to use each weapon when you unlock it. I dont see this as much anymore, but a lot of players used to (and maybe still do) use their dolls only for attunement. They go up to an enemy, and start attuning, not doing any damage, or knowing how to do it. They should give tutorials for each weapon, teaching you good ways to use it.

Sorry to go on forever, just wanted to make all my points. :P

Well, a better tutorial all around. One that is far more thorough, and touches all aspects of the game, so that the new players are educated about the game, and therefore less "noobs". I also said that it wouldn't hurt to add in a quick tutorial for each weapon unlock.

Great ideas, Davy! Especially with the chat bit. So many new pirates don't understand the difference between talking in Local and Guild chat.

I agree with all your ideas. I have two more to add.

A tutorial for loot. Such as, the take it all button, the fact ye can click on a certain thing ye want, hover over the weapon or clothing item to see the card, and clearing space for it.

Also, they should teach you about the sea chest, every single bit. The trash can, redeem code, face camera, all that stuff! I have met a lot of people who had no idea that they could trash things, or face the camera. Even people who had never seen the redeem code button.

In fact, I never knew

people also try to heal others with doll by attuneing, and I know that because I was one of them

Here are some examples of weapon tutorials I want to throw out.

Doll: In front of you stands a skeleton. Tia Dalma tells you to go up to it with your doll out, and click the mouse button, attuning you. Then she teaches you about poke, and you kill it. You level up and unlock swarm. She gives you a quick hint to watch your voodoo levels when you use the doll, and not to get too far from your enemy or you break attunement.

Dagger: Will Turner (or is it Elizabeth, I forgot....) has a dummy in front of you. You go up to it, and they tell you to do two timed combos. After you do a few of those, you kill the dummy, and get asp. You use asp on it, and then it is over. Will/Elizabeth gives you a quick hint regarding backstrikes.

Grenades: Jack takes you in front of a small group of low level skeletons. He teaches you to throw your grenades, and how to angle them well. You defeat the small crowd, as they wont fight back for the sake of the tutorial, and you unlock stink pot. Then Jack gives you a quick hint to not throw them at your feet.

Staff: Tia Dalma has a fly trap in front of you. You pull out your staff, and she teaches you about blasts, and voodoo skills (soul flay, pestilence, etc). You kill the fly trap with soul flay and blast, then unlock pestilence. She gives you a quick hint regarding to watch your voodoo and to always do full casts.

Some good ideas out there Davy. Would love it if they put in a chat tutorial, you don't know how many people i've met who don't have a single clue that there's a guild chat and crew chat.

I prefered the old beginning tutorial, taught you the importance of your Sea Chest, and how to track down your quests.

Throwing in some weapon tutorials would help as well, and give you a free level.

Disney is a little lax on giving all of the new players good instructions, and it ends up that most newcomers know little more than how to slash. If they improved and added tutorials, a lot more people would know what they were doing.

I agree 100% Davy! I also think that a little fishing tutorial wouldn't hurt. It doesn't even have to be a cut scene, but it could simply be a page with info and pictures that you can view at the fishing master.. Again, great ideas!!
