I wouldn't call a lot of what they have done more dramatic, nor would I call it an improvement. There are things that I do like such as the newer ships and bosses. What I don't like are some of the glitches and settings changes that they have done to the enemy ships and land enemies. For starters it seems that they messed with the treasure settings on ship plunder. There was a time before the so called improvements when if you had high ranked treasure sense and you went after higher level ships, You were usually rewarded by much more valuable cargoes. Now it seems that cargo has become very random regardless of the level of ships you're plundering. Seems that you're just as likely to get a bunch of near worthless crates after sinking a Death Omen, Behemoth, or Juggernaught as you are to haul in Royal Chests from such high level ships. The exception to this seems to be in plundering high level flagships such as Collossus and the Man O War flagship over by Kingshead. Those still mostly pay off with royals.
I don't like the changes made to the behavior of enemy ships giving them the ability to fire three volley's for every single volley that our ships can fire, also giving them the ability to spin around 180 degrees and hit us with both broadsides instantly. I see a lot of weird glitches in the way in which the enemy ships behave since the improvements.
I've also seen glitches or maybe settings changes with land enemies that just aren't right. For example their ability to run through solid objects such as the fence at kingshead or to run inside a wall and still attack from within the wall.
Also enemies that can attack with cutlass while well out of range of out own cutlass attacks. Seems that they did fix the glitch that caused enemies to be able to float and attach from above. Rather than call the changes dramatic or an improvement I'd call them annoying for the most part.
