Its not just you! That Family Valuables quest is notorious with my friends. All we have to say is, "he's searching for the family valuables," and everyone knows!
One of my friends sank 45 marauders before finding it. Another sank only 2 (and we were all jealous).
Pirate Lore isn't much better. But the cutlass is totally worth it
