I found 7 or 8 locations on Port Royal alone - including some in jungles - none are giving out any coins anymore
BUT if you go to Lucinda on Port Royal and get her clean beach quest AND lost chart quest, I find that I go back and kill one skeleton and get 40 coins from her - one for beach clean up and one for chart - takes about the same amount of time as it did to dig up a chest
