Sorry to hear. Rudeness abounds for sure. I've always viewed this as a social game and actually enjoy most of the interactions I have with other players.
But then again, I have a different persona in POTCO than I have in real-life at work--online I get to be a nice, gentle, compassionate, no-rush kind of guy. At work? Well, not so much.
I believe that is fairly common nowadays. People have a different side they display in MMOs (or blogs, or chats, or whatever). They get to be somebody different, so they be somebody different.
Anyway, crew up with me anytime. I find a fully-manned and gunned Warship is so much more fun that single-handing. And at Kinghead? Brother--there's room for all.
