sam "hullsteel" got his name from when he became admiral in the french navy his gift was a ship that was made entirely out of steel. after 8 years of sailing it around and sinking enemy spanish ships, it eventually gave way to a spanish war ship captained by commidor avaricia.avarcia was promoted to admiral shortly afterwards. in sam hullsteels shame, he was kicked out of the french navy.

5 years later,he saw an ad for the french seeking recruits from perrile de porc. he tried to steal a british ship to go to de e'table de porc but was caught by lord beckett(who had teamed up with avaricia and the spanish) and was thrown in bilgewater prison where a month later, right before his shipment to kingshead for his execution, jack sparrow saved him and sent him off on his adventure to get back the black pearl and fight for the french to hopefully become admiral once again.
