sounds like you were all in different servers to change servers you could
A) During game play press the m button or go to the map and on the top of the menu should be a drop down menu click that it should bring up a list of servers or "oceans" make sure u and your kids choose a single one and all go to that server
B) before game play while choosing which pirate to use when u are stamding on the docks. on the lower left hand corner is a box click the drop down menu there is the list of servers or "oceans" make sure u and your kids choose the same one
