To launch a ship, you had to walk up and talk to a dock attendant. You launch your ship from him, and 5 seconds later it appears next to the dock. Your crew stands next to the ship and boards it. If your ship is not moved within 30 seconds, it disappears.
When you dock your ship, you drive up close to the port you wish to dock at and drop your anchor. Your ship stays out in the ocean, so you can easily access your ship. When you are not on your ship, it cannot be attacked by enemy ships.
To exit your ship, you simply walk to the edge, press Shift, and it drops you into the water. Then you go ahead and swim to shore.
I loved this interface, partly because we could shoot cannons at enemies on land
. I still like this interface because I feel it is more user-friendly and is much more realistic.
